Re: New King's Quest from TellTale!
I just can't agree. I'll almost certainly never replay any of the Telltale S&M games. I've probably played the Lucasarts original half a dozen times. I've replayed Grim Fandango, The Longest Journey, and the Gabriel Knight series countless times as well. The Telltale games just seem trivial to m...

Re: New King's Quest from TellTale!
My problem with the episodic format is that it invariably makes the game feel "small" and insubstantial. In S&M season 1 I remember getting very bored and uninterested around episode 3 because every episode just seemed like a 2-3 hour grind of traveling through a small handful of locat...

Re: Favorite Fifth In A Series - Those That Began With AGI!
SQ5 easily!! Great story, great humor, best game in the series. I don't get the praise for KQ5. It's thoroughly ordinary, has a trite and cliche storyline, and of course a particularly punishing and unfair dead end that I will never forget.

Re: New King's Quest from TellTale!
I have a real love/hate thing with Telltale. It's nice to see a company making an effort to revive adventures, but I really do not like the episodic format. It seems to hamstring overall storytelling and lend the games a sort of "triviality". I played Sam & Max seasons 1 and 2 but unli...

Re: Favorite Fourth In A Series - Those That Began With AGI!
SQ4, despite the fact that the game was a bit buggy and the skate-o-rama thing was awfully implemented. It had the series's trademark humor but also actually had a well-written and engaging storyline and of course Gary Owens's fantastic narration.

Re: King's Quest VII - Why so much hate?
Why the hate? Because they followed up the deepest, richest, most mature chapter in the series with a cutesy, corny piece of fluff.

Re: We All Love Sierra Games, Right? Well, what did you Hate
In QFG1VGA I had some weird issues where the castle courtyard scene (where the weapons master is) would freeze up and be unpassable. Ay, yes! I remember this one - I believe this was a speed bug issue? Yes I think it must have been speed related. It didn't show up on my DOSBox playthrough a year or...

Re: Favorite Third In A Series (From Those That Began With A
Gotta go SQ3. My answer 15 years ago would have been PQ3 but I played it a couple of years ago and it hadn't aged all that well.

Re: We All Love Sierra Games, Right? Well, what did you Hate
Tawmis, to answer your questions: Worst dead ends for me were the mouse in KQ5 and the Domovoi in QFG4. The KQ5 cat/mouse I think was just positively evil from the designers standpoint. The Domovoi issue (if you don't talk to him the first night he shows up at the inn, the game essentially becomes u...

Re: We All Love Sierra Games, Right? Well, what did you Hate
Hated cheap deaths and dead ends. Hated copy protection schemes that make it annoying to play the games today. Hated PQ's driving sequences. Hated QFG's general bugginess. Would probably be my favorite Sierra series (barring GK) but almost every installment had some nasty bugs and this is the toughe...

Re: The Commodore 64 is back!
Holy crap that takes me back. The C64 was my first PC and I used it for a solid 7 years until my dad bought a 486 running DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.0.
Pretty cool item, although I'm not going to spend $600 on novelty nostalgia value.

Re: Favorite Second In A Series (Plus Series I Champ!)
The clear choice here to me is PQ2. Definitely a more "substantial" game than the alternatives. Wouldn't it have made more sense to group the games by "era" rather than just doing it by number? So you'd group games into categories like: Early EGA: KQ1, KQ2, KQ3, PQ1, SQ1, SQ2, QF...

Re: Favorite "First" In A Series? (EGA Version)
You're absolutely right, but I think the difference in PQ is that the series clearly takes itself seriously, so when things come off as nonsensical or goofy, it's more glaring than when something in one of the other Sierra series comes off that way.

Re: Favorite "First" In A Series? (EGA Version)
Not sure about that, I remember Sierra touting the game's realism, even going so far as to say it was (or could be) used as a training tool for recruits.

Re: Favorite "First" In A Series? (EGA Version)
Police Quest. It was just something new and different. I liked that it was violent and mature. I liked that I could drive around. The game felt more detailed. Instead of giant empty forests or a barren desert planet, it had rooms filled with objects. And I liked playing something modern. I still ha...
