I think keep the installers there ; I've had a modicum of success running them through wine in Linux and I believe others have had success running XP in a vm; worth adding a note explaining the known issues on win 10 though.

That's no problem, I can't thank you enough for what you've already done. If you need some help trying to fix it I can potentially help out, although I understand if there's copyright shenanigans and what not. In the meantime I shall try to dig out my old WinXP machine...

if it helps, there IS an entry in the add/remove programs dialog for A10SHELL.EXE - I searched the hard drive and came up nothing though.
