It sounds like you have the CD version (I think my version came from the Adventure Pack as well), but just to make sure, the MONSTER.SOU file should be 262,662 KB in size. If you have the correct file size, then it sounds like it might be a scummvm issue. If you haven't already, you could also check...

Make sure you have the MONSTER.SOU file in your directory. The only other two necessary files are the TENTACLE.000 and TENTACLE.001 files. Listings of the necessary files can be found in the scummvm.org website, under the documentation link.
