Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
Yes, this is definitely the code that I recall seeing 10 years ago. Thank you very much for tracking it down for us. The mystery is finally solved. Although I guess the next question is where did this snippet of code come from? Was it a magazine? Was it a book? It is supposedly the only genuine SCI ...

Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
I guess that completely squashes the SCI code theory then. Where else but here, could we crush your dreams? ...And yet I know that a book or magazine or interview or something like that existed at some point in the past that actually did show SCI code. I remember that someone had a text file ...

Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
Much of the software used to develop KQ and other games was written by Ken. Curious, as Ken has said on his own board that he didn't really understand SCI. I guess all that that comment implies is that Ken had a hand in developing the tools used to create KQ. So perhaps that means some of the AGI t...

Re: Favorite Sierra musical track
There are three that come to mind for me: 1. Erana's Peace: This is at the top by a long way. I worked out the notes for this on my keyboard and still to this day I can sit down and play it both hands from memory. It's awesome. The kids love it... everyone asks "What is that you are playing?&qu...

Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
Well, with the magic of Google, I found and confirmed I found Don. I just emailed him the same thing I emailed Al Lowe (with the attachments and question). So hopefully he can remember that far back. I tried writing to Don (the old paper based postal method of writing) back around 1996/1997. I type...

Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
Al Lowe rocks my socks! From Al Lowe: That code is definitely AGI, not SCI, although there are parts of it that I'm not sure would compile. The book has errors (for instance, we never capitalized "ego" in code nor in writing about it). As to why they'd use AGI code for examples, I have no...

Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
I always assumed it was SCI code. But like I said, I have never programmed in SCI or AGI, and you definitely know what you're talking about by the sounds of things; so I'd most certainly trust your opinion. I wonder if Roberta or Ken could be reached to ask why the book mentions SCI, and yet the co...

Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
Well there goes that theory. That is definitely a first printing as you say. I happen to know that the code shown is an exact match for the code in the AGI version of KQ4. It is from room 7. I wrote a tool back in the mid 90s to display scripts from AGI games and I used my copy of this book to help ...

Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
It is indeed first edition. When I get home, I will be happy to scan it to verify it. But I am 99.999999999999999% certain it's first edition. Thanks. That would be really great. To clarify something from my post above, both of the examples I have given are first editions. Where they differ is in t...

Re: The Official Book of Kings Quest (split from New Acquisi
The way to verify whether this is a first printing is to look at the page with the publishers details on it. Below the ISBN you will see the text "Printed in the United States of America". Immediately below that is the printing number. For example: 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 If it appeared as the abov...
