3.5" USB Drives.

Post by Tawmis »

I recently discovered these. Collector told me I can even pick one up cheap. I haven't - but I am going to - because I recently got Firehawk, A10 Tank Killer and Silpheed - all of which are 3.5" disks - which I'd like to install and play. :)

So for those of you who no longer have a 3.5" disk drive for games - just wanted to post here that a USB version exists. :)

Do you have a picture or something of it?
I've never seen them here or even heard of them...

Here's a link to one on a store website that explains all about it.

They are also faster than the old internal drives.

Once money's on my side again (or to some degree) - I plan on picking one of these up.

Don't really have much of a choice if you are going to collect classics. I even broke down and got a 5.25 drive off eBay to stick in an old machine.

I've been using a USB drive on my laptop for about a year. I agree that it's a lot faster.

I just bought one from RadioShack for $15. It works very well. It's actually recognized as the A: drive in Windows, and shows up in my BIOS and boot manager as a floppy drive, and not a generic USB device. The only problem is that the USB cord is really short, maybe a nine inches.

That's how mine is too, except my cord is maybe 5 inches. :|

Is it a unique USB chord? Or can you use a different kind (like scanners, printers, some external drives - all use the same type of USB chord so that you can actually get a new one or swap it out).

Mine has the cord built in. About the only thing that I could do is get an extension cord or hub.

Yeah, it's built in. The only place I can keep it where the cord will reach is if I place it on top of the PC itself.

Thats neat. A very good way to copy all of your classic games that are on diskettes and put em on your hd to put on CD for better storage.
