Problem with Collector's King's Quest V installer

Post by Daventry »

Hi folks,

I installed KQV on Vista 32 using Collector's installer, but I cannot get the game up and running. The installation and subsequent configuration seemed to go fine. When I run the game DOSBox starts up and I see the KQV hourglass icon for a second or two, but then it disappears and the black screen just hangs. No Sierra logo or anything. Has anyone else had this problem and/or know of the solution? Thanks -

Sounds like you're trying to run the Win version, not the DOS version. Thus DOSBox will flash a message stating that it's a windows application and quickly exit.

envisge0ne, i don't think this is the case, as i installed KQV using Collector's installer, which i assume installs the DOS version by default. also, the game starts up briefly (as indicated by the visible hourglass icon) in DOSBox. this wouldn't be possible with the windows version.

Try redownloading it and reinstalling it again. If it still doesn't work, let me know.

Unfortunately, still no luck. I don't know what my new computer's problem is w/ your installers (as you may recall, KQVI didn't work either). My old comp with XP ran things fine. In any case, I should be upgrading my new comp to Win7 as soon as Lenovo sends my upgrade kit, so hopefully that'll fix things.

In the meanwhile, please let me know if there's anything else I can try. Thanks -

Everything looks as it should. Is DOSBox in %ProgramFiles%\DOSBox or in %ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.73?

Shucks, I was hoping something in one of those files would be off.

DOSBox is installed in c:\program files\DOSBox

I previously had DOSBox installed in c:\program files\DOSBox-0.73, but i got rid of that and reinstalled in just \DOSBox to see if it would fix the problem, but nope.

delete exit (last line) in the dosbox.conf file, then try to start the game and see what error message it gives you.
