Two Guys Are Back! SPACEVENTURE!

In Space No One Can Hear You Clean, er, Scream. But if you post in this forum about Space Quest - someone's sure to hear you. I think. Try it, anyway!

Fair enough. :) I never studied any history by any "official" method; but after playing "Age of Empires II" obsessively back in 1997-98, it got me interested in history, and I started to read and read and read ... ;) First in libraries, and then (as my financial situation improved) by buying cheap second-hand books and reading more.

Some of it even stuck, I hope! :)

On the other hand, I never got to experience comic books, or play D&D for more than one or two sessions. (There simply aren't/weren't as many D&D groups around here as there are in the USA). *shrug* I think I still have some of my old D&D 2nd Ed books around - not the source material, but I do have these books:

1. "Sages and Specialists"
2. "The Complete Book of Villains"
3. "Of Ships and the Sea"
4. "Arms and Equipment Guide" :)

They were not bad. ;) But man, D&D 2nd Ed had waaay too many supplementary books ... I think TSR used to publish them? Do WotC still publish waaay too many supplementaries?

Didn't see you post until now. I'm glad it's out, but I don't think I'll get it until it is out of early access. I'd rather play the game when all of the bugs have been worked out.

As someone who has been their QA, and having replayed it now, well over 100 times (and I am not even kidding about that) - I can tell you the latest one is pretty much bug free. (There may be one or two hidden, but nothing that should be game breaking).

Like NBS, I was waiting for it to be out of early access etc... but this is great news. I'll give it a try. :) It looks like fun.

I would also like to get Colossal Cave together with this one. But with the Aussie dollar being the way it is, games are and always have been expensive here. =\

I would say, if I had to guess, you will enjoy SpaceVenture more than Colossal Cave. I started Colossal Cave, because Ken & Roberta were behind it - I like what they have done - but they REALLY have stayed true to the adventure text game - so the riddles and such are still complicated - and going through a cave system is just another maze (not always my forte) - but the graphics of the things (dwarves, bird, dragon-thing) are all well done. But I only played about an hour before I stopped, as opposed to SpaceVenture I am nearly in 100's of times (and not kidding, since I was doing QA testing for them) and still enjoy it. :D

I think you'd appreciate the humor of SpaceVenture (it's not in your face as Space Quest was, since dying is possible, but not nearly as frequent as it was in Space Quest) - but the dialogue in SpaceVenture is well done.

Colossal Cave, you are very much alone, with little interaction from what I have seen (and what I remember from eons ago in the text adventure type game - which I also never beat).

Thank you for the detailed review, Tawm. :) I also don't enjoy mazes, so I think I might give CC a miss. It's too bad. :(

On the other hand, I think I will give these two games a try (Expelled and Overboard). They are both made by Inkle Ltd., who also made Sorcery! - which is a port of a 4-volume Fighting Fantasy game, a kind of early RPG, which I read as a kid - and also 80 Days, a choose-your-own-adventure set in the Jules Verne novel "Around the World in 80 Days" - with steampunk elements! :D Both highly recommended!) :)

Phew, what a run-on sentence. *collapses into a handy couch* ;)

Those three games together are $65.40 AUD, which is just over $40 USD. This is affordable for me, sure ... but it wouldn't have been when I was unemployed. Thank goodness for permanent employment (which I worked my butt off for 10 years to secure and keep). :D

Anyway, um ... I'm rambling. Sorry. Where was I? Ah yes, Space Venture. Off I go to purchase it from Steam. Wish me luck in solving it ... and finding the time to play it, even. Too many games, not enough time. Aaahhh! :P

If you need any help (it's pretty straight forward, only a puzzle or two may require help) - let me know. I am pretty sure I can close my eyes and beat the game these days, with the frequency in which I've played it. :D

And prepare to fall in love with Rooter.

Happy to announce the "final" version of SpaceVenture is now on STEAM!

http://larrylaffer.net/archives/5232

I have beta tested, alpha tested, delta tested and every other tested this game from Uranus to the moon and back again. It's been incredibly fun (and not only got my name listed as a part of the Kickstarters, which I did) - but also a special thanks in there too! :)

I'm glad that they've released the final version. I've been holding off on playing this until it was "done". I'll probably get started on it in the coming days.

Same here. Avoided until it was ready for prime time. Looking forward to playing it!

(And hearing Ken Allen's music -- the soundtrack is out now!)

I've played it before (and enjoyed it). *thinks* Does this news mean that I have to update my copy?

Any news of maybe another SpaceVenture? SPACEVENTURE 2: ROWDY ROOTER RETURNS!!! :D Rooter's back, and this time, he's joined a gang and started drinking! Ace tries to get Rooter to go straight, so he can help Ace again in his janitorial adventures. Witness Rooter try to find random space junk while trying to deal with gang pressures and rampant alcoholism.

(Whoops, I think this belongs in the "Change a word, ruin the game" thread) ;)

If you are playing on Steam, it should update itself.

Yes, I started Steam last night and it did ... and I remember thinking "Whoops!"
