Gog is offering Text Murphy 1 & 2 for free until December 24th as a holiday thing. So any fans of the series would love this.

For reference, the two games mentioned are Mean Streets and Martian Memorandum. Most people I know have never seen nor heard of MS and MM. Instead, they think of Under a Killing Moon and The Pandora Directive, neither of which are included in this offer.

Are these any good? Never played Tex Murphy. They're adventures, right?

They are considered classics (among the top 10 of all time) by the adventure community :)
It's FMV adventure at it's best despite the dated graphics.

They can be a bit buggy on todays new machines, and have a few bugs, that might temporarely stop your gaming, but they are SO worth playing, that most don't mind :D

Edit:
I'm of course talking about "Under a killing Moon" - "The Pandora directive" and "Overseer"
The first two in this offer, I've never really managed to finish. Too darn difficult and not as good as the others.

Mean Streets is good in my opinion. There are some arcade sequences that have aged horribly and the process of driving the speeder is a pain, but fortunately there's a useful autopilot option. The story has been later recounted in Overseer, but I actually prefer the way it was told in the first game.

Martian Memorandum is pretty bad, on the other hand. The story is pretty insipid and shallow, the characters seem completely recycled from the first game and even the music is more annoying. The game has certain redeeming qualities, especially near the end of the adventure, but it is alotogether skippable (even if Lowell Percival, a recurring role in MM, later will have a certain relevance in Under a Killing Moon).

When it comes to the two central chapters, however, Under a Killing Moon and The Pandora Directive, everyone should really give them a try: the stories are great, the characters really well fleshed-out, the gameplay scalable (with two modes: Entertainment and Gamer), the puzzles clever (although sometimes frustrating) and the FMV direction is really top-notch (and this is particularly evident in the last game, Overseer, which I'm not very fond of though).

I wouldn't say those two games are worth paying for. However, since they're offered for free, you might as well try them out.
