GK1 Error at Day 9: Class number 710 is too large
Hello!
I've been playing the game (after many years) perfectly until the beginning of Day 9.
I've the GK1 CD-ROM version in spanish subtitles with english audio
The error comes when Gabriel is entering the "underground" area of the "two ringed" place at the beginning of day 9. I press the walk botton and wait that Gabriel enters, and just when the screen goes dark it crashes.
The error is the following:
FATAL
Class number 710 is too large
script.cpp(386)
Script 0/$59d
I've tried several things: changed configuration, check if VESA is the video driver, used in "windows safe mode"...
Software:
Windows 7 Enterprise
DOS Box 0.73
I hope someone can help me,
Thanks!

Hrm. I am not familiar with the error. Collector, or someone much wiser than myself (which is just about everyone and their pet rock!) may know a possible solution.

Also do you have a save game RIGHT before the error?
If so, is there any way you can upload the SAVE file to the forum post - so that one of us may try to replicate your error.

As far as I understood in a file:
1.000.000
Gabriel Knight 1
April 13, 1995
I installed the game via the file you have for DOSBox:
http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updat ... s.html#GK1
I've played the game without any problem until now. I also have the problem to "use" any other save game file from other users (tried to find another save in the internet from my point of error, day 9, in order to continue playing)

I am unable to open your save game. Was this an official Spanish subtitle version or a fan made patch?

Re: GK1 Error at Day 9: Class number 710 is too large
I only used the installation you posted, I haven't used any other patch, program or attached another file at all.
The game is an ISO of the original, I used a Daemon tools to emulate the CD (I used to backup my very old CD's into a file in order to save them).
By the way...
My CD-ROM is on the drive F: instead of the usual D: but as far as I know this installation uses all the data from my hard-drive (C:)
I hope we can find a solution to the problem...
PD: also if you have by any chance the SAVEGAME from the Beginning of Day 9 or AFTER Gabriel enters the underground area in order to try if it works... THNKS

Re: GK1 Error at Day 9: Class number 710 is too large
This is an error that I have never heard of, nor can reproduce it. There is no patch that addresses this error, at least not any English language version. It probably is specific to your localized version. You could ask on some of the Spanish language adventure gaming boards if they know of any patches for your version. Someone there might have a save game that will work with the version that you have.
Beyond that, the only thing that I can suggest is to try some of the usual things. Try turning the detail and speed all the way down in the game's controls. If the subtitles can be turned off, try that. Edit the dosbox.conf file to set cycles down to, perhaps 6000. Run INSTALL.EXE in the game's folder in DOSBox and try other options for the music and audio. If any of these things work, you can set things back to the way they were before, after you get past the scene.
If all else fails, try replaying the day from the beginning of the day and do things in a different order. I wish that I could be of more help, but without being able to reproduce the the problem I cannot devise a workaround.

Re: GK1 Error at Day 9: Class number 710 is too large
Thanks, do you know by any chance any Forum for the Spanish version of the game?
I've tried to play it from Day 8 again, changed the config settings from INSTALL, resource.cfg and others and I still have the problem.
I also wanted to obtain a savegame after my point of error but it seems that any other file different from the files I did doesn't work because of a "translate" error.

Another user here, lobo.rojo has collaborated with me to produce a couple of Spanish language installers and has linked to a Spanish forum for adventure games. They may be able to point you in the right direction if they don't have a save game for you:

Hi Collector,
the problem is "solved". We did a clean installation from the CD (not from your installer) and used my savegames from chapter 9.
Btw, my savegames don't work with an installation using your installer, there is some problem with the interpreter. I had the same problem with my saves in GK2.
Saludos

Thanks for helping him. I figured that it had something to do with his localized version.
