Gabriel knight 3 not responding

I m using xp sp3.i have used the new instaler.but the problem remains.after succesfull instaling of the game when i try to play i see a black screen and i hear one sound.then nothing happens.thanks in advance

It sounds like you might have a codec conflict. Try starting the game with GK3.bat. If that doesn't wor;k, let me know what big codec packs you have installed.

Because I can see this being asked - how would one find out what codecs they have installed?

The big packs like FDDShow and K-Lite would have to be intentionally installed. They should also show up in the Add/Remove Programs. More than one pack can cause conflicts with each other, too. This is why if you already have one installed and try to install another one, that it will prompt you to let it uninstall the other one for you.
