QFG5 Windows 7 Probably Quicktime 3.0 not 64bit
Hey I was wondering if there is something I have to do with QuickTime to get it to work, I can't use 3.0 in my 64bit windows 7 and verision 7 of quicktime is installed now and it plays the movies just not through the game, I can watch them off the
Sierra\QFG5\Data\Mov
so the quicktime does run the movies since I can't downgrade to 3.0 am I SOL or do I have to use VirtualBox, because I hate virtual box, I used DOSBox for 1-4 and they worked fine, just had to slow down the DOSBox but that was easy
So anyways Minos Jumps, and I lock up many other people have said to downgrade thier QuickTime, But I can't since I am using a 64 bit opperating system...
Well If anyone has figured it out let me know thanks!

The problem is that the installer is 16-bit. I installed and tracked the installer via XP Mode. If I uninstall my QuickTime and try to run the opening video, as you would expect, the game just asks for the CD, I assume so that it can install Quick time, but if I drop the QuickTime files in the game's folder, it will play the opening. I don't know if it would use what it finds in its own folder if QuickTime is installed or if it would use what is installed on the system. Just as an experiment, try unzipping the QuickTime components into your QfG5 folder and see if that works with the Minos fall scene. If it does not, try uninstalling QuickTime to force it to use what is in the folder.
also, if you could upload your save game from right before the Minos fall, I'll experiment with it.

As an alternative, you could try installing Quicktime Alternative. While I use Vista, and not Windows 7, I had significant problems getting the Quicktime movies to work until I unistalled Quicktime, and installed the Quicktime Alternative Codec pack instead. Now the movies seem to play as intended.

Wow it worked, I put the files (quicktime) you posted into the QFG5 Directory and it runs now, but I am crashing when I fight the dragon, I don't know much about that crash though I am looking into it, I will look at other's posts to see if it has been fixed by someone else, This post is a little premature,
I read something about the sound but that doesn't seem to be the problem, humm.. Well off to surfing the net again,

Did you apply the 1.2 patch? That patcher is a 16-bit executable, but I made a 32-bit installer for the QfG5 1.2 patch for 64-bit Windows.

Don't worry about it I tried again and it worked this time so anyways something is screwy with the last battle but sometimes it works, I was able to save everyone.. *yeah* marry erana and get the myhero'sname.CH5 saved if it even matters... LOL
That quicktime fix did it, it's just buggy at the end... I also had problems getting out without erana appearing to teleport me out of the treasure room in minos's house....
Anyways I saved the day and being a Paladin I turned down the king ship and gave it to Elsa...
Well don't know what more to save, Thanks so much for the quicktime fix, Sama-Collector

If I can get some others to try this solution and if it works, I'll offer it as a download on the QfG patches page.

Sorry if this constitutes thread necroing. I should mention that I tried the QuickTime 3 method offered here. Placing the files into the game folder did indeed restore movie playback functionality, however the sound stuttered constantly. I then removed these QuickTime 3 files and tried QuickTime Alternative. This restored the in-game movies and produced proper sound playback in the videos.

Good to know.
