For your dream of having all your Sierra games on a harddrive without the CDs, here is a first stab at a multi-disc game. It is not a perfect solution, but it will allow you to play the game completely from the HDD.
You will need to make ISOs of both discs called CD1.ISO and CD2.ISO, respectively and place them in the game's installed folder. Other than that, it will automatically set the game up to run in DOSBox. To cycle between the "CDs", all you will have to do is to press "Ctrl+F4". I know that jafa has made his Lighthouse installer, but the Windows version may not work with Windows 7 and he will not set it up for CD-less play.

What is the expected incompatibility with Windows 7?
The game is 100% native 32-bit for XP/Vista and will run on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. I test each game on Vista x64 as part of the release process.
I use ISOs for all my games. Swapping discs is just a few clicks.Collector wrote:and he will not set it up for CD-less play.

They are saying that Windows 7 will break just about all backwards compatibility. It is supposedly dropping legacy support. It will not have all the old DLLs. According to most sources you will need to get all new apps. This may be ultimate reason that Microsoft bought Virtual PC from Connectix.

I will test this when I get home!

I read something about compatibility through visualization.Collector wrote:They are saying that Windows 7 will break just about all backwards compatibility. It is supposedly dropping legacy support. I hope it doesn't go 100% object based... COM APIs are a PITA to poke around with in assembler (had to implement a chunk of DirectDraw v1 to get Lords2 to work).
Re: For Tawm - Lighthouse CD-less play
I suspect that they might try something similar to what Apple did for backwards compatibility for OSX with "Classic Mode". A full blown virtualizer with OS9 loaded in it.jafa wrote:I read something about compatibility through visualization.

There will need to be some method to run XP/Vista applications... the SquirtTheCat and DOSBox versions should still work.Collector wrote:I suspect that they might try something similar to what Apple did for backwards compatibility for OSX with "Classic Mode". Native Windows 7 support - maybe we can have a friendly race between DOSBox and SquirtTheCat for implementing native Windows 7 support
Re: For Tawm - Lighthouse CD-less play
DOSBox will mostly need to have the SDL ported, first, but many projects rely on SDL, so I don't think that it will take too long, after Windows 7 comes out.

Tawm, here is version 2 of the installer. This version can create ISOs of the discs for you. Just use the link in the first post.

Will do this tonight. Do I need to uninstall the previous? Or will this overwrite what it needs to? No problem either way!

Re: For Tawm - Lighthouse CD-less play
I got the game working good through DOSBox on my vista pc. Only problem im having now is it won't let me save my game. When I type in a name for my saved game I click save then it takes me to a screen and it says, please select the game you would like to load and I can't click anything besides this black box which returns me to the menu. When I tried to change the directory I can't add anything else to my c:\ directory either as it just tells me that its invalid. I have looked for my saved game files in all my lighthouse folders and can't find them anywhere any ideas why?
Re: For Tawm - Lighthouse CD-less play
Did you use the installer from here?

Now the problem im having is when it asks to change discs I press control+F4 then enter but it always gives me this error 105.
