Sierra classics forums shutting down.

Rudy can give more info on this, but we will be losing the official forums for the classic Sierra games:

It is sad, but the fan based boards will have to do. My patches and installers will still be available on the Sierra Help Pages, but no official link to them. I imagine that the FTP will be going before too long, as well. Any information, fan fics, etc. on those boards or anything on the FTP servers that you want you better get before they are gone. Note that most of the Sierra game patches on the FTP are available on the Sierra Help Pages.

By all means - throw that stuff on Tawmis.com that isn't already there (patches and such) - and invite folks to come here. I don't mind housing classic Sierra fans. I will even open up a SIERRA section, and put King's Quest, LSL, Quest for Glory, etc on there as needed (and make you the moderator there as well Collector).

It would be nice to have the Sierra Help Pages on its own domain. The idea of all the extra space is very appealing. I don't really want to maintain a forum, but it would be nice to have one that the name was immediately identifiable as having to do with Sierra and was closely linked to the Sierra Help Pages.

At this time I can't afford purchasing a new domain - but I could create a sub-doman and do it -

So it'd be like...

www.sierrahelppages.tawmis.com

Or something. I can't remember if it goes before or after the tawmis.

killed too many brain cells last night. :)

We talked about it before, but about how much would it be to setup a new domain through your service?

I hate dealing $$ issues.

So, with all the fun we had with the Aussies and extra spending I did in Seattle....we kind of have to be careful the next few weeks. I just paid all the bills and we should be ok....we have about $400 to get us through the next couple of weeks but the next payday is kind of our house payment then after that we are ok....

You just got paid and now there is only like $120 in in the SD account after the car payments :(

Do you have any of the addons for tawmis.com, like a dedicated IP? How do you have the forums setup? Through the same company? On the same webspace?

There is a huge addon called "Fantastico" which allows you to do forums, blogs, etc - so that it's all through the company.

I am just trying to decide how much it might cost me and what extras I might want to setup besides the site itself.

Edit, I have just about made up my mind to do so. BTW, is tawmis.com on a dedicated IP?

I'm not sure using Fantastico is the best way to go about it, though. Fantastico often does not use the latest versions, and it uses default decisions that aren't always suitable.

I am very satisfied with the servers that tawmis.com is on. It is always responsive is very rare for it to go down. I just need to decide what options/addons that I should get. If we link the various boards with a gateway, I could host tech forums on the Sierra Help Pages.

Tawm, if I do this, I would be honored to have you as a co-admin on the Sierra Help Pages.

Al, on a side note, did you check your PM?

On here, when it's out of date - when you log into Fantastic - it tells you and does the update for you once you click it. (You lost any customization of images and emoticons - but the forum updates automatically - which is nice).

For example when I log in - it tells me to upgrade to phpbb 3.0 - but having seen it - I don't care for it - so I stick with this one for Tawmis.com

I have checked my PM - and thank you so much, Collector. I need to go through my games and sort out what is what. I could do it now, but I have two websites I'm working on for clients and they've been very patient while I was ill, so... I'd better get those done first...

Feeling tired a lot of the time is a bit of a pain. My energy will come back; I'm counting on it.

Tawm, is tawmis.com on a dedicated IP? Shell Access? You have experience with this company. What extras do you recommend?
