This could be one of the most ambitious fan projects. SQ7 might have been, too, but I don't think that that one will ever see the light of day again.

Their situation was quite different. For starters they had people working on it who would only contribute if Vivendi/ActiVision never got involved. The team made a proposal to ActiVision/Vivendi (whoever it was at the time I can't remember) and they denied it so they put SQ7 on the shelf indefinitely. Probably will never come out at this point.

That seems a bit childish and unrealistic. The SQ series does belong to Activision (and Vivendi before them) so it ask that the IP holder "butt out" while a fan project is being made is not a bright thing to do.
