No voice - LSL6

Post by jbholio »

I seem to have the same problem as this user with LSL6. http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.p ... cc05c45ba7

I rencently purchased a CD version of LSL6 on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Leisure-Suit-Larry- ... 0628443167). I tried using the LSL6 installer on the sierrahelp page. I selected the CD version on the installer. The game plays great, the graphics are good, the background music plays fine, but the voice is not working. For instance, if I try to talk to the girl at the front desk, I get a hourglass. I have to click on the mouse to get the thing to disapear. The text on the bottom on the screen is working.

I use Windows Vista and DOSBox 0.74. The soundblaster options on DOSBox are :
sbtype=sb16
sbbase=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
sbmixer=true
oplmode=auto
oplemu=default
oplrate=44100

Drop this in the game's folder, run it and post the results here.

I found out the reason it wasn't working. In the resource.cfg, the files resAUD and resSFX were pointing to D: instead of C:.

Good that you figured it out, but the SHP installer should have given you the right paths.

I had a similar issue with the LSL6 talkie version. The resource.cfg file was not correct (installed with the 2006 LSL patch installer). Manual modifications to correct the paths (voice, sound effects, and patches directory) took care of everything.

Thanks for pointing it out. Somehow the RESOURCE.CFG that I use for the patch got over written by the default one. It will be fixed with the nest version.

I am having exactly the same problem as you guys but Im not the most technical person in the world with this sort of thing.

I cannot open my resource.cfg file to sort the problem out.

Can anyone help me??? Collector I'd love a new installer if this will sort out my problem.

;) ;) ;)

I used the SHP installer.

Had a play around today tho and got it sorted. Didnt realise I could ammend the file in word, save, and then it'd work fine.

Cheers anyway tho guys.

It will be fixed in a day or two. By the way, use Notepad not Word for editing simple text configuration files. Word adds formatting information that can cause problems.

Just FYI, the resource.cfg file in the installer you have for LSL6 still seems to have these issues. I had to manually alter it to get the voices and sound effects to run. Of course I run my games on Mac OSX, so I had to alter them anyway because I install on a PC and then move the files to the Mac where the directories are different, but I still noticed that the audio and sfx are being pointed to a D: drive in the your installer's config file.

It is now updated. I have been distracted by other projects lately and forgot about it.
