Quest for Glory Imports on DOSBox for Windows 7
Quest for Glory Imports on DOSBox for Windows 7
I know theres been a few things online about this but i've tried them all and its not working. I've completed QFG1 the VGA version and tried saving the game to c:myname.sav, c:\myname.sav, myname.sav, c:qfg1.sav but nothing seems to work. I can get it to where i can find the file on the computer but when I go to import the character to QfG2 whether I can find it or not, it won't recognize it. I've even tried moving the file to the QFG2 folder in DOSBox and it still won't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Did you install the games with the installers from here? If so, all you need to do is to copy the saved character into the next game's folder. When you select import at the beginning of the game, it will open to the game's folder. Just scroll down to the saved character and select it.

I did install the games from here. And i did try moving the character file to the QFG2 folder and its still not finding it when I go to import it. I don't know if this helps or means anything at all but when I find the character file on my computer it comes up as one of those files thats unrecognized and asks you if you want to use Internet Explorer, Adobe Reader, etc. to find/open it. I'm thinking this may have something to do with it not coming up in the game but I'm not sure. Also is there a specific folder I have to put it in thats in the QFG2 folder or can I just drop it in the QFG2 folder? Also the way I have it set up on my computer is its in C drive, QfG, QfG2. Again not sure if that has something to do with it but thought I'd give complete details. Thank you very much!!

The file should have an SAV extension, which is not a common type. There is no normal program to open it on Windows. The Windows warnings are just because you tried to open the file outside of the game. You should be able to just drop the file in the game's folder and select it in the game's import character function. If you get a "doesn't seem to be a proper QfG1 character save file, you either grabbed the wrong file, it is corrupt or, less likely, it is just incompatible with your game. If all else fails, you can try one of the Character Creators/Editors from here.

have fun with the game. You may wish to also try the AGDI VGA remake of the game.

...which also natively supports all QFG1 import files and exports a proper QFG2 import file than QFG3 can read.
