Shivers2 game crash error 99 error loading resources

HI im new to this board and hope this is the right place to post this.I have xp SP3 on my computer I can run the game fine no problems with panning video playback or other errors.However if i click on certain objects or sometimes just opening a door the game crashes and I get error 99 code error loading resource,Ive tried changing compatability tab to the xp install version with no luck,does anybody know the cause or even a fix for the problem? I would be most grateful.Im using the official cd's,no clones or pirate copies.If you need more info on the the error Ill do my best to get it.Thank you

Usually that error is from trying to run the game from the main EXE. This does not allow the game to find the config file. You need to run the game from the shortcut created by the installer. However, Shivers 2 has extra problems under newer versions of Windows. Try using the StC installer for Shivers 2.

Tried that unfortunately same error. ok here is the error message in its entirety

The game is not loading from the D:\ drive and I checked my resource in the directory and none of the lines point to the D:\ drive. Reason why I dont run from that drive is because it burned out and had to use other cd drive,Dont know why it shows up in the error page

Usually you can set the paths in the config file (RESOURCE.CFG, RESOURCE.WIN, etc.) and change all of the D: entries to the drive letter you are using. However jafa's installers tend to not use the config file. If that does not work you can try changing the letter of your drives:

1. Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Manage".
2. In the left pane of the Management Console highlight "Disk Management" under "Storage".
3. Right click on the bad CD drive and choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths..." then click "Remove".
4. Do the same with the good drive except click "Change..." instead of "Remove" and pick "D" from the dropdown list.

Yeah tried it with the hope of a fix,no such luck I guess xp and it just dont mix.I keep thinking its something simple to change to make it run,bad part is its one of my favorite games to play,I have shivers 1 and have no probs playing it.do you think it might function in a virtual pc program? say virtual pc 2004 and have a win 95 cd on its way to me now.Anyway I read on the board bout someone having the same problem I had with one of the leisure suit larry games.They made a change to the resource file and it worked.Wish it was a simple a fix as that for me.

I have not tried to do much with the game since jafa made his installer and it has no DOS interpreter for use with DOSBox. I currently have had to suspend development of my installers for the time being. After I get passed my PC issues I'll see if I can take a look.

I see no reason that that game would not work in a VM. Before you do, though, did you try to do a clean reinstall of the game with jafa's installer with your working drive set as "D:"?

Well no luck there either,think im bout out of things that would cause it to crash to think of here.most likely shelve it till the virtual pc is up and running.could the cd drive itself be a problem as in not reading all the data the pc needs to run it?but then again I made a image of the game and still get the same issue there as well.sorry just throwing ideas out there.

Does the disc have any scratches, abrasions, cracks? If so, you will have trouble on a VM, too. If it is a bad disc you could try copying the contents to a folder on your hard drive and burning a new copy from that folder. If you get a CRC error while copying any file, it means that it can't read it.

One other thing you can try, but it may take a while before he sees it, ask on jafa's forum.

The Disc reads ok was able to burn a image onto another disc,will take your advice and post on his board thx.

And ALL of the files copied over to the hard drive?

Image copied fine,compared all files to original cd and all are accounted for,here is something I just remembered I ran the game in windows 98 before the harddrive took a dirt nap and didnt get the error at all,tried the 98 compatability setting on xp but it didnt help,this only happened a month ago and had no 98 cd to reinstall on new drive before I got xp

Copy the raw files over from the original CD, not the image. There may be an issue with your image.

Still no success tried a different image maker software this time,same thing happens but it puts out a error code 141 : decompression: destination length invalid

But if I install from the origional game disc I get the error 99 code

It sounds like your CD may be damaged.
