My Latest Adventure Game
My Latest Adventure Game
So I recently finished my first full-length adventure game -- Adventure: The Inside Job. This is also the second game I've made in the genre, and the first game I've put together in Adventure Game Studio.
I created it not only to give people a reasonably fun hi-res adventure to play, but to pay tribute to all those classic adventures from yesterday (naturally, many of Sierra's games are included). Of course, this game isn't without its problems (especially in the puzzle department), and I hope to create better games in the future.
To hear more about Adventure: The Inside Job and download it (it's 66 megs, so be prepared for a long wait!), visit its webpage.

i've gotten to the waiting room when i had to go to bed yesterday. So far, I like! I love how you have it going from EGA to VGA, very original and cool.
Looking forward to playing the rest when my sinuses start behaving and I can think again.

Holy cow - I've been waiting to see this one for a while. I'll get the download going and head to bed but I'll start up the game first thing in the morning.

Re: My Latest Adventure Game
Taking a quick break from the game because this might go on for a while and you're probably eager for feedback, Akril.
So far, I think this game is brilliant. I'm already geeking out that my next mission involves fixing a plot inconsistency from one of my favorite games. There's so much potential to be had from making an adventure game series about adventure games and you're already covering a bunch of those bases. I haven't even played half these games you mentioned yet so it looks like I have a lot to catch up on.
Righty-o! Back to the game then! More praise to come later, methinks.

Re: My Latest Adventure Game
This game gives me that same fuzzy feeling on the inside that I got with the cartoons against drug short that was on TV in the 80s and Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Downloading now onto the laptop (house/dog sitting for someone) - does it require DOSBox or anything?

Re: My Latest Adventure Game
Nope! An AGS game just requires a setup and you run it.
Just finished the game, Akril. You are awesome beyond belief. Your 2D animation never ceases to impress me and the gameplay itself feels like an authentic adventure game. Even the puzzles weren't insanely hard. There were maybe two parts in the whole game where I had to snoop around the game screen for specific hotspots, but otherwise, it's nice playing an adventure game where I can plan out my puzzle solutions, even if it is a little short (nothing wrong with short when you have a busy schedule.)
As MusicallyInspired said, it reminded me a lot of all the cartoon crossovers out there (the anti-drug PSA you're thinking of is "Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, MI.) Smash Bros, Kingdom Hearts, etc. - the nice thing with your set-up is that you have so many characters and locations to work with and so many stories you could derive out of this. If you have plans for a series, I sincerely look forward to it.
I could go on for a while chatting about all the awesome things in here (i.e. tiny Jerrod Wilson), but I'll let it sink in for a bit. In short, you made a great game, Akril! It was a terrific way to spend my morning. I'll be recommending it to others.

Re: My Latest Adventure Game
Thank you very much, Datadog! AGS has intimidated and confounded me for years, and finally being able to not only figure out how to use it but make an actual game with it really got my endorphins flowing. I gained gray hairs and lost sleep and fingernails in the months I spent making this game, but I still say it was worth it. I originally hadn't intended this game to be the first in a series, but the way things are now, I'll probably end up doing a sequel in the not-too-near future.
Thanks, Tawmis. I'll keep you in mind.Tawmis wrote:If you ever need help with puzzles and the such please let me know. I'd be glad to lend a hand.

Re: My Latest Adventure Game
Hrm. I am an idiot maybe? I went to Disc World II - saw the rabbit bolt - but I can't follow - when I do the walk icon - it goes to the edge and just won't load another screen. Also when you first see the rabbit - some of the text isn't visible because it's too far too the left.

Re: My Latest Adventure Game
i havent finished it myself, but through what i've done so far, there isn't any walking to other rooms. any change in locations is handled through the teleport Palm pilot thing (sorry, forgot the name).
at least to the point just after the jackalope puzzle i found anyway.

Re: My Latest Adventure Game
Ah - so there's no other room at the start? The rabbit just takes off? And I need to teleport again to something else and come back?
(Look! Already I need hints! Clearly I haven't played new adventure games in forever!)

That room in DW2 is the only one in that particular game that you're authorized to search. Use your CommKey on the portal on the left side of the screen to search the two other game rooms.
That's strange...AGS isn't supposed to let that happen. Does the same thing happen if you run the game in a windowed mode?Tawmis wrote:Also when you first see the rabbit - some of the text isn't visible because it's too far too the left.
