Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
Hi!
I installed GK3 on my PC (under Vista 32-bits) and everything went well. The game starts, runs well. I get all sound (music, SFX)... but no voice/dialogue. Ie., when Gabriel looks at smth, nothing can be heard... Same when he speaks with someone.
So sad, I was so exciting to play GK3 again, 10 years later
Any clue?
Thanks a lot

Is your copy of the game a localized version?

Re: Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
The GK3 installer will not work with localized versions. The speech is in a large cab file that I can't extract with my installer. You will have to use the installer that came with the game.

Re: Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
You can try different compatibility modes on the installer. Also, when you run the installer, look in your Task Manager to see if it is running.

Re: Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
I would think that the hidden setup problem of the earlier Sierra Windows games wouldn't be an issue with GK3, but try changing the classic Windows theme and then retry the setup.

Re: Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
I'm having same issue with windows 7 64
I will explain a bit more the issue because it is very strange.
When I start a new game there is no voice/dialogue. Tried saving and reloading game with no succes...
BUT Then I tried another thing, I have copied some old saved games from my xp partition (where GK3 works fine with no issues) to the new installation of GK3. Then, if I try to load some of these old saved the dialogue works again!!
So, in conclusion, GK3 works fine with windows 7 64 if I start from an old xp saved game, but not if I start a new game.
Some explanation? Can it be fixed?
Thanks in advance

Do you have a non-English version?

Re: Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
I have the spanish version: It have english voices (game is not dubbed into spanish) and spanish subtitles.
Re: Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
The installer only work with the English version. Use the original installer for the other versions.

Thanks for your reply.
I have tried installing game with original installer (activating windows95 compatibility mode) and now it works fine again with voices and dialogues. I have also copied the files of this installation to the hdd installation folder and now all works perfect with no issues and no need of inserting the cd.

Re: Sound problem though using new HD XP/Vista installer
The installer was originally only designed for the English version and now supports the Spanish version of the game. If your French localized version is like the Spanish there are files that are packed in the InstallShield CAB file that may or may not get unarchived properly. There may also be other files that did not get copied over if the file layout of the discs is different. I am glad that you were able to get the game running, though.
