Gah!!! So close!!!
Hello again everyone! Well, I made it through the game and defeated Addy once again, except I hit a very irritating snag. As a wizard, I'm supposed to summon the staff once more in order to release Erana's soul, BUT the game tells me I'm too busy to cast a spell. How can I be too busy with Addy being gone, and the crystal pulsating and waiting for me to do the last deed. It's not like my guy has a last minute craving for those avacado and garlic sandwhiches to deal with first! Anyone else encounter this??

Have you applied the NRS patch?

How did you overcome that problem with not being able to tell Tanya about the sacrifice spell?

The proper order should be summoning the staff, telling the joke, using a force bolt, and then summoning the staff again. If that doesn't work, it might be, as Collector stated, patch-related. Or try slowing down the game's speed and turning off details.

Well, it turns out I forgot to deal with the faeries, that night I saw a staff floating a screen down from Erana's Garden, and after I touched it *Cosmo Kramer-esque pop noise* it was a back on track!jujigatame wrote:How did you overcome that problem with not being able to tell Tanya about the sacrifice spell?

I have the same problem as the original poster.
Using the new installer for the QfG Anthology CD I played through QfG4 and in the scene where Katrina sacrifices herself I summon the staff, tell the joke, cast force bolt on Ad Avis - and after Avis is gone I stand next to the glowing crystal and can´t do anthing. When I try to summon Eranas staff again the game tells me too that I´m too busy to cast a spell.

Try lowering your DOSBox cycles some and restoring to a slightly earlier point.

I lowered the cycles in the dosbox.conf from 8000 to 5000.Collector wrote:Try lowering your DOSBox cycles some and restoring to a slightly earlier point.
I lowered the detail level in the game from highest to lowest.
I tried to restore the "automatic save" right before the final ritual.
I tried to restore the last save before that where the hero still stands below the dark portal that opened in the ceiling that lead to the final ritualchamber.
Nothing changes that after the final ritual I´m unable to summon Erana´s Staff a second time. Always the game tells me that I´m too busy to cast a spell. I can eat a sandwich. I can even rest for 60 minutes. But not cast a spell

This was a bug that sometimes surfaced with the NewRisingSun patch. You could try removing the NRS patch files and restoring to an earlier save.

In the patches subfolder I deleted all of those you listed except the two 81.* because I had none. Only a zip file antwerp maze that contained them - but as they were not extracted that should not be a problem.Collector wrote:This was a bug that sometimes surfaced with the NewRisingSun patch. After deleting them and loading the "automatic save" right before the last ritual the game freezes.
When loading the last game before that (below the dark opening in the ceiling to which one levitates up) the game crashes to the desktop as soon as I levitate through the ceiling.

I don't think that NewRisingSun ever fully resolved this. I was afraid that the save games would not be compatible with the unpatched game. You can restore that patch by unzipping the NRS patch back into the patches folder or reinstalling the game on top of itself. Try going into the game's controls and turn the speed all the way down and play with the detail all setting. Short of that, you may need to start the game over without the NRS patch. You would also need to set your cycles down to no more than about 7000 or so to avoid the speed bugs. Note that this bug should only affect mages.

Re: Gah!!! So close!!!
Seems to be right. I now restarted the game as a fighter and had no problems impaling Ad Avis and shattering the crystal to receive the proper ending. Using the exactly same settings for the game as before when, playing a wizard, nothing worked after defeating Ad Avis.Collector wrote:I don't think that NewRisingSun ever fully resolved this.
