Little piece of history

Is the game being a ROYAL pain? Need a hint? Got a problem? This is the place to discuss King's Quest!

Little piece of history

Post by tassieboy »

I was at my parents place the other night. My mother said she'd found an old computer game while going through some stuff.

Have a look what she brought out.

This is the original box and disks. It would be even cooler if we still had our original copy of KQ1.

AGI or SCI? Don't forget, there is an SHP installer for it.

SCI version. I haven't seen the AGI version.

I recently bought the 7 game collection anyway it's fine, but I don't have a machine with a disk drive anymore. Still it's nice to have the box and disks as a sourveneir.

I have a USB floppy drive. Now if I could only find a 5.25" USB drive.

I don't think a 5.25 USB drive exists. Any electronics people out there wanna invent one? Luckily I had an old dead pc that had a working 5.25 that i pulled out and put into my old win98 pc.

Well you could make one. I saw a link for an ISA to USB adapter. I think that the idea was to interface modern computers with old industrial equipment, so the adapter was pretty pricey. You could take an old IO card from an old 386 or so to use with the adapter and your old 5.25" floppy drive. Coming up with a case to stick it all in that you wouldn't mind having in your living room is another matter.

Nice. The old disks and booklets have a lot more charm than the dvd with pdf manual on it.

Gah I wish I still kept in touch with my mom... she has a bunch of my stuff from when I was growing up, including the Tandy 1000 (AGI) version of King's Quest IV and Hero's Quest.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, "it's never too late to get back in touch with your mom."

(ducks for cover)

LOL!!! Not gonna happen I'm afraid. We're not on speaking terms and has been that way for.... 9 years now.

But no worries.... I'm not gonna shoot you for suggesting it. :)
