Trouble viewing old .avi files

Post by Daventry »

I am having trouble viewing the .avi files included with the various King's Quest Collections (e.g. TECH.avi, FUN.avi, INSPIRED.avi., etc.). I get the sound but Windows Media Player doesn't show the video. Am I missing some codec or something? I am using Windows 7.

Thanks!

You are missing the old codecs that they use. You can try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack to see if it includes what you have missing. If have 64-bit Windows, be sure to install both one of the 32-bit packs and the 64-bit. If that doesn't work, you can try to install the ancient Video for Windows that was included on the CDs that have those clips. I would recommend trying the K-Lite pack, first.
