Help me land a voice acting job! :)

Go on. Vote for me! You know you want to! Feel free to pass the link around, put it on facebook, twitter, email it to friends and family and tell'em to vote for me... would be a nice shot at doing some real voice acting.

On that note -

This is what had to be read - now tell me - is the part I put in BOLD - is that not... a complete sentence or something?!?!

"Shadow was not superstitious. He did not believe in anything he could not see. Still, he could feel disaster hovering above the prison in those final weeks, just as he had felt it in the days before the robbery. There was a hollowness in the pit of his stomach, which he told himself was simply a fear of going back to the world on the outside. But he could not be sure. He was more paranoid than usual, and in prison usual is very, and is a survival skill. Shadow became more quiet, more shadowy, than ever. He found himself watching the body language of the guards, of the other inmates, searching for a clue to the bad thing that was going to happen, as he was certain that it would." American Gods excerpt by Neil Gaiman.

Hopefully for me?

But yeah - I thought I was crazy trying to make sense of that sentence. So I finally just did it and submitted. Then I listened to others - and they all seemed to stammer over it too. So clearly there's some text missing somewhere in that portion of the reading.

Thank you! Was taken last year at the San Diego Comic Con... actually just outside. They had a bunch of trees, with lights at the base at the Seaport Village; a few of us climbed into them to snap some pictures.

Neil Gaiman usually writes unusual stuff, so a somewhat strange picture seemed fitting...

Voted, of course.

You did a good job reading the excerpt (which is not what I would have chosen from American Gods) and even with that sentence. I'm not a native speaker but something is certainly missing. Unfortunately I read the book too many years ago to remember what it was supposed to mean...

Thank you! :o Voice acting is what I would like to get into - not as a full time thing, but part time. (Full time would be ideal, of course, but realistically it's a scant few who can do voice work for a living and still try and live in an expensive place like San Diego!)

Thank you!

Yeah, I went ahead and just read that line the best I could - but that line alone was like 30 or 40 takes, because it's clearly missing something - and it's difficult to keep the pace of what you're reading, when suddenly, literally in the middle, there's some nonsense. But I did what was in front of me to read - and submitted. I then listened to others, who all seemed to stumble and struggle over that part as well. So it's good to know I am not alone...

I understood it!
He was more paranoid than usual, and in prison usual is very, and is a survival skill.
He was more paranoid than usual, and in prison usual equates with very, and being very paranoid is a survival skill!

I checked and this is the same sentence that's printed in the novel. So this must be the meaning!

Strangely, it seems it was even that way in the book itself:

Do you agree with the meaning?

I'm also trying to check the Italian translation.

Here! The Italian translation reads: "Era più paranoico della media, e in galera la media è molto alta perché è l’arte della sopravvivenza."

To better understand the meaning, it can be translated this way: "He was more paranoid than the average, and in prison the average is very high, [because being very paranoid] it's a survival skill."

Yeah, see that would make a lot more sense.
