RAMA Save Game

Post by Collector »

Does anyone have any save games for RAMA from shortly before a disc change? This would greatly assist in a project that will lead to a much better RAMA installer.

I have RAMA but don't think I have ever played, and thus of no use. :(

I'm halfway through Rama. It's one of those incomplete projects which is on top of the to-do-list. Not sure what there is to upgrade though, but I can provide save games in less than a month.

I believe she did. I spoke with Jules fairly recently. She's waiting to come back here but is buried in school right now. (As well as general work and such).

I don't need a whole set. Do you at least have one from just before a CD change?

Not sure where in the game my saves are any more. I'll just play the whole game through again, the US release. Where exactly is the CD change again? I'll try to send it in a day or two.

I'm not sure where a disc change occurs. RAMA is is one that I am the least familiar with.

The CD change is when you are about to traverse the frozen 'sea' and reach 'New York'

Takes a bit longer than expected. King's Quest VII should be completed today, then I move on to Rama and provide the save game.

All RAMASG.* files. You can just ZIP them into one file.

There are only 8 files in the Rama folder:
- language
- prologue
- Rama (icon)
- resource
- resource.sfx
- sdirectX.dll
- sierra.err
- sierw5

Where should the savefiles be located?

Oh, you used the Windows version. You also have Windows set to hide extensions for known file types. You may also have Windows set to not show hidden files. These are dangerous practices. This is why you encounter things on line with a double extension, like "PrettyGirl.jpg.exe. You won't see the exe or other potentially dangerous file type extension. It will appear as just "PrettyGirl.jpg" on your computer. Just a warning.

That said, did you use the StC installer? It installs it in Windows and I need the DOS saves. If you installed it in the %ProgramFiles% folder on Vista or Win7, your saves may be in the VirtualStore of your user profile. Even though RAMA is an SCI32 game, I would still recommend that you do not install it in the %ProgramFiles% folder. This has caused problems with some SCI games that can be easily avoided by not installing in a system folder or at least in your user folder.

Yes, I used the StC installer. So what should I do? If you need a DOS save file, it's no problem. I'll need to replay the game again once or twice anyway for video and music recordings, so I can reinstall in a different way. Just let me know how to get the save file properly so I can provide it.
