I need help! I've got the Kings Quest collection from 2006. Kings Quest VII doesn't started so I installed the game with the installer from sierrahelp.com. When I want to start the gam now, DOSBox starts the game with a black screen and than DOSBox close it. I deleted the "exit" in the dosbox.conf and DOSBox said :"The game can't run with DOSBox!" I hope somebody can help me!
Thanks for help!
Kings quest 7 from the Kings Quest Collection (2006)
Re: Kings quest 7 from the Kings Quest Collection (2006)
For the 2006 collection you need to use the installer that came with it. This collection has many problems, so you will need to apply the patch after installing it:

Yes, I patches it and KQ 7 doesn't run! When I start the gam now, DOSBox starts the game with a black screen and than DOSBox close it!

Re: Kings quest 7 from the Kings Quest Collection (2006)
You are welcome. Enjoy the games.
I have been asked about this before. If the version you have is version 2 with the DOS interpreter, it would need to patched to Version two. To do this with earlier versions of KQ7, the installer employs a binary difference patch to update it to version 2.00b for the DOS interpreter. This is absolutely necessary as this is the only way to address the firecracker timer bug as well as to make the game playable on 64-bit Windows. The patch has to do a CRC check on the existing files as it cannot apply the difference patch to different version of the files that what it was made for, i.e. any localized versions of the game. I would need a copy of any different version to add support to it and even if I did, the result would be the English only 2.00b, which is what you already have with the collection plus the DOSBox patch.
That said, depending on how the language support was added, I might be able to find a work around by extracting those resources and applying them as a patch. However, I have no way of determining how possible this might be without access to the German CD.

Re: Kings quest 7 from the Kings Quest Collection (2006)
Oh...ok. the KQ7 german game works without the installer too with the trick to change Sierraw.exe and Sierraws.exe, but than the game only starts in a 640*480 screen.

Keep in mind that you may not be able to get past the firecracker scene on a modern PC with the Windows version. You may have to skip the rest of the chapter.
