KQII PC Booter version

Post by audiodane »

Hopefully soon I will revisit the going through of my old game diskettes. In the mean time, I wanted to ask about a particular KQII version that I have. It seems I have the PC Booter version of KQII (as seen here on MobyGames). The biggest question I have is if there is any way to copy these files to make them HDD playable? If I recall (it's been a few months since I last looked), the diskettes are not DOS or Windows readable. There is an aesthetic appeal to the old style that I'd like to preserve on my games USB stick if at all possible. I have the 1995 collection version already installed (recently played and completed), but would like the original we have to also work, if possible.

thanks!

You should be able to make a disk image to play in DOSBox. I don't think that Sierra ever used the CPC copy protection with King's Quest II. I have not looked into making booter images before, but a quick Google suggested RawWrite. Let me know if it works.

My original Apple IIGS King's Quest II disk 1 definitely has copy protection on it, as it won't let me play a copied disk image without inserting the original disk.

I don't know if they did this with any other version of the game -- but mine seems to have a CPC copy protection on it (given what you described to me that it was, but an Apple GS version of it).

If Dane's copy does have the CPC protection, the old SUP program might work, but I don't know how you could apply it to a booter disk.
