GK1 Clock Puzzle

Post by jujigatame »

My girlfriend is now playing through the game on my recommendation, and she's on the first day. It occurs to me that even though I remember how to open the clock, I have no clue how the player is supposed to figure it out. I checked a few walkthroughs and they just tell you exactly how to do it, they don't discuss the reasoning. Does anyone remember this? It's really got me stumped. My GF is against direct hints so I don't want to just give her the solution, just a hint to point her in the right direction.

If you read the German Poetry book in St. George's and then compare what you find in the German Dictionary, you should discover that one sentence recurs frequently: drei drachen, which means three dragons. As such, since the poem was written by none other than Gabriel's grandfather, to whom the elaborate clock belongs, the clock's outer circle must be arranged to have the dragon head above the 12 and then the hands must be moved to read 3:00.

Thanks, I remembered reading those books but I guess I just assumed they were for enrichment/background.
