KQ7 XP (1.4 ver of KQ7) problems for pppp

Hey Collector a question: Is there a way i can install just the 1.4 ver of KQ7(I want it because of the scrapped deaths and funny glitches :D ) from my Vivendi Collection so i can run it from Windows 3.1? I've tried just copy-pasting the kq7 folder after using the normal installer but i always get an error when trying to run the game.

EDIT: I split this off into it's own thread, since it's different than the original poster's issues/problems.

Create a bat file with

Code: Select all

SIERRAW.EXE .\RESOURCE.WIN

I'd guess... post the contents of your BAT file. :)

Setup it it up with a shortcut instead. You will need to add paths, too.

... was exactly what I was guessing the issue was, ironically.

I can't program patches and such; but I spent a lot of time in DOS back in the day! Most of it has been forgotten, but there's still a few wheels that turn...

The bat has exactly what Collector told me to create: "SIERRAW.EXE .\RESOURCE.WIN"

I'm sorry Collector, but could you maybe be more specific about those paths i need to add to the bat file? As for shortcuts you mean creating a program item?

Create a new shortcut to SIERRAW.EXE with the path to the RESOURCE.WIN file as a parameter.

Before doing that, try adding an additional line with "pause" in it to the BAT and run it. See if it gives any information.

OK did that and i could see it saying "illegal command" to both sierraw.exe and resource.win

As for what you said Collector,i'm sorry but i don't understand.i want to run this from Windows 3.1 and there are no shortcuts in Windows 3.1 as far as i know.

Yes there is. How do you think you run programs in Win 3.1? They're all in the Program Manager. To create a shortcut go to "File" in the Program Manager and click "New...". Select "Program Item" and click OK. Boom, there's your shortcut information.

If it's saying illegal command, though, that means that the "sierraw.exe" file is missing altogether which would explain why it's not working.

Oh that's what i said, a program item:

It's just that Collector kept saying "shortcuts" so i got confused :D God i'm stupid :?

As for sierraw.exe missing, i can assure you that every single KQ7 file that the official 2006 Vivendi installer creates is there. What i did was install my Vivendi collection normally, then copy paste the newly created kq7 folder into my Windows 3.1 folder and then put the batch file that Collector asked me to create in that same folder. I can show a file/folder list if necessary.

EDIT: OK what exactly does it mean adding the "resource.win" path as a parameter in the program item? Do i have to add it in the "Command line" box?

EDIT: IT WORKED! DARN IT,IT WORKED! Thanks a lot for all your help guys

You are men with big cojones

Maybe your BAT file wasn't located in the game folder then. Nice to see you've got it working, though.
