To be clear, I am not saying or even remotely saying to support abandonware/warez versions! You had said for QFG there was an installer for the anthology and not the stand alone game. I was just saying there's some of us who have legit copies of the stand alone versions (and can very easily prove it by taking a picture with the box, cds, etc).Collector wrote:Well, there are individual installers for each. Again, the main reasons that I am not supporting abandonware versions is more because of the technical aspect. As I have said before, when the installers fail it is usually because of user error or another version that is different enough to break the installer. I have been incorporating routines in the NSIS scripts to minimize the likelihood of user error and have been getting fewer of these kinds of support requests because of it. If an installer doesn't work because of an unaccounted for version, if it is an official version and I can get enough information, I add support for it. I am not going to burden myself with trying to add support for God knows how many abandonware/warez versions that might be out there for any given game.

No, I didn't say that there are no installers for the individual games. There are installers for all of the glory games, the original floppy disk games and both collections. What I don't have installers for is abandonware versions. The floppy installers need to have the original files, complete, unconcatenated and uncompressed from the floppy disks to work.Tawmis wrote:You had said for QFG there was an installer for the anthology and not the stand alone game. Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
Do your installers actually compare the file listings to the original file MD5 checksums or something?

Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
No, I don't prevent someone from using it on any version, but it expects the resources as they are before they are installed. In other words, split and compressed. See, that is the other thing that the installers do. They perform the functions of the original installers in preparing the files on the floppies for installation. You can do this manually by running the original installer in DOSBox, patch and configure the game and then set the game up in DOSBox.
The installers fail if they don't find all of the files that it needs to install the game.

Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
Actually this came straight from the Quest for Glory Anthology CD that I purchased back in 1999. The game worked perfectly fine until XP came out. I don't know where you're getting that this isn't from the CD but I did. If there is another file from the cd that you need then you should let me know
Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
The stand alone installer is for the floppy version. Use the installer for the Anthology.

Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
Also I looked in the folders on the ANTHOLOGY CD I possess for all the versions of QfG3 (English, French, Indian, German) and they all seem to have the same files with the exception of the English version (english file is what I sent you that came STRAIGHT FROM THE CD). Would this have something to do with it not working? Any HELP would be appreciated as opposed to accusations or assumptions that I don't have a legal version of the game. Seeing as I am a loyal fan of Sierra games even now who has owned and refuses to get rid of games like Kings Quest Collection, Mask of Eternity, QUEST FOR GLORY ANTHOLOGY, Quest for Glory 5, Betrayal at Krondor, Return to Krondor, not to mention a couple Police Quest games and those are only the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
Does the anthology work the same way as the stand alone installers? And why did it work for all the other games including QfG4 but not for QfG3?
Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
Not as much needs to be done with installing some of the games as others. As you might have gathered from this thread, the resources for QfG3 were split and compressed to fit on floppies. The version on the Anthology is not. The standalone QfG installer uses these split and compressed files to install, which are missing with the one that shipped on the Anthology.

Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
So what do I do for the Anthology Installer? Do i copy all the game files to one folder and download the installer or is there another procedure?

Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
You don't copy anything. You insert the CD, run the installer, point it to your CD drive, and let the installer to all the copying.

Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
could anyone tell me which two files those are? I think I have the same problem, because everytime I try to play, it says "Drive C is mounted as (file location)". I tried installing it in a different drive, but nothing works. any help? You are missing two critical files. These are the files with all of the game data. Also, i noticed that the installer is in the same folder. Did you install into the same folder that the install files were in? Post a list of the contents of the floppy disks
Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
What game and what version are you trying to install? Did you use one of the installers from here?

Re: Quest for Glory 3- Not working
I used an installer for just the third one from Sierra online, after expanding the RAR file in which it was located. I'm playing the third one, VGA.
