Phantasmagoria 2 Laggy Cutscenes

Hi there!

I got a little problem here and I hoped somebody here could help me out.

When I start the Game the Intro is very laggy. This goes on to every Cutscene that I have tried in the Game.
My PC is three years old, so I don't think that this has something to do with my hardware.

Any suggestions or knowledge about someone, how had the same problem?

Besides: I cannot change the Options in the Conf.exe? Everytime I change something and press Save and start the Conf.exe again, all my Options are on that point before I saved.
I also tried to start the data as an administrator, but it didn't help.

The config tool does not remember what you have selected. It just writes the dosbox.conf file. Try changing the dosbox.conf entry for [cpu] to

DOSBox0.74, I tried to change it in the diagnostic tool within the phantasmagoria 2 folder....but it always reverts back. I did however change it in the DOSBox options file. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall Phantasmagoria 2 in order for it to take effect?

Use the config tool to change the DOSBox settings, not the diagnostic. However, this setting will have to manually set by opening the dosbox.conf (in the game's folder) with Notepad.

ok that did it, thank you so much. way to go by the way on all the work you are doing to keep these games alive. I have two more quick questions....forgive me if this is addressed in another thread. Havent come across it yet.
1. what are the differences in output choices in the configuration for DOSBox (surface, overlay, openGL, openGLNB, DDraw) as well as smoothing?
2. this might be answered from the above question.....but is there a way to make animations less blocky? I realize these are old games and my nostagia might be playing tricks on me....but I wonder if color configuation could help this or something else. The reason I ask is because the videos of playthroughs on youtube look considerably less blocky than what I am experiencing.

There are different video outputs that DOSBox can use to draw the graphic output of the games. This is partially a matter of tastes, but mostly it is a matter of finding what works best for your system. The default is surface, but this can present problems with scaling, I use overlay for the installers. The others may be less stable on some systems. The main dosbox.conf and README have more on it.

What you are referring to about the video is probably the interlacing used by the DOS version. The Windows version does not use interlacing, but has problems running on modern Windows.
