First off, this is a terrific forum! Can't wait to explore it more.
I've been revisiting my love of Daventry with my daughter (5), and we've run into an issue running KQ5. I installed the 2006 compilation using the out of the box install program and version of DOSBox and the game (and others) loaded fine. Because of some choppy (albeit kinda bad) dialog I decided to reinstall using collector's superior installer program found here to see if that solved the annoying problem.
Now the game won't load. After DOSBox displays its splash screen I get a "4.pat Not Found." error. Any advice?
KQ 5 error loading message
Re: KQ 5 error loading message
Welcome to the forums. I'll have to take a look at the installer script to see why it may not have included it. In the mean time, unzip this to the game's folder.

Re: KQ 5 error loading message
Thanks for the crazy fast reply. I already had a 4.pat file in my game folder, but I replaced it with the zipped one. Unfortunately I was still getting the message.
BUT! All is not lost. I just moved it to the PATCHES folder and now it works like a charm!

Re: KQ 5 error loading message
Perfect. We're halfway through the game with no problems. While choosing to remove the VU programs and go with a better installer added a level of complexity to the process it was totally worth it as choppy sound is a thing of the past. Granted, KQ5 will never be as flashy as Halo, but for the original publisher to put it out there without patches borders on scandalous!
Thanks, Collector, and everyone else who takes their time and skill to help others play these old games. Oh if only actual software companies cared as much about the enjoyment of their own products as you guys and gals do!
