KQ8 Indeo codec error request

Post by Steve »

Dear Tawmis and Collector. I posted first on the KQ message board. Tawmis answered and referred me here: (http://sierrahelp.com/forums/viewtopic. ... 027#p21027). I've been to that post and to "Collectors" current post on this board. I had previously been to: http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updat ... ers.html#K. I had already used the KQ8 patch to load the CD to my hard drive to overcome the previously reported lockups of various video scenes. I still had to use various combinations of graphics choices in the options menu to get some scenes to work. Finally reached Lost Paradise and when offered to enter a new realm the program crashes and I get an error message asking for a new version of the Indeo codec. Went to the web and downloaded both the 5.11 and the 5.2 Indeo codecs and installed one after the other and each time the game failled as before. I went to patch page and re-downloaded the patch and re-ran the installation. Same result. I have run the diagnostic log and have a text.doc output and it is attached. I considered it might be a problem with the last saved file. I could go back one or two saves, work my way forward if you think that is necessary. Otherwise do you think there is any hope for me completing the game? The CD is File version 0.0.0.10, 1998. But under other version information it lists it as 1.0.0.3. Other notes: I originally got the CD to autoload and run when I first tried it. The first advice I saw had me unistall the game (except for the save folder) and reinstall. However, the computer would no longer recognize the autoload feature of the CD, nor install from the CD if I accessed the program through the files menue. I then made it to the Patches link applied the patch which installed the game to the hard drive and played as described to where I am now. I'm now thinking I'm in a galaxy far, far away and wondering if there will be a chapter called "A New Hope"? Thanks in advace for any help. Steve

indeo Codec problem

Post by Steve »

I'm sending this to Collector as the internal server error won't let me back to my original message below. I tried the file he suggested and it still defaults to asking for a new version of the indeo codec when I try to enter the realm of the sun. Are there any other suggestions? Aslo, my windows explorer no longer works after the file install. :o Whenever I activate it it will allow one folder to be accessed and then it closes with an error message. Washing, defraging, virus searching and registry editing do not solve the problem. I would like to finish this game if there is a way. I will keep my hopes up. Thank in advance for any help. Steve

I have use the codec install on my Win7 machine with no issues. Did you try a system restore?

One other thing you can try is to use compatibility mode on Mask.exe to set resolution to 640x480.

Sorry I have been away. Iappreciate your help. I tried a system restore but that did not help the explore.exe issue. Have tried various web forum solutions but so far to no avail. I will try your suggestion on the Mask.exe and se resolution to 640 x 480 and let you know the results. Thanks. again. steve

My laptop's packed up at the moment, so I can't upload the Xvid re-encoded videos but as a temporary work around you can try using this to just skip the video.

Extract the attached zip to: Mask\Snowexit\patch\
