Shivers 2 problem
Trying to run it under Windows 3.1 under DOSBox (which should support it), but it doesn't get further than this (see screenshot). After a few seconds, the launch screen disappears and that's the end of it. I would like to run it under DOSBox (rather than with the SquirtTheCat installer) for better recordings. Any idea why it doesn't launch? Basic OS is XP if that makes a difference... Thanks in advance.

Re: Shivers 2 problem
Is it one of Collector's installers?
If so, attach the diagnostic to the post.
Could it be Auto Run Hanging that Collector mentions? And the fix is there in the link!

No, I don't have a Shivers or Shivers 2 installer. The original Shivers is a 16-bit executable, so I will not be doing one of it until ScummVM supports it. I have not done a Shivers 2 installer because of the StC installer, but perhaps I need to take a look as there are some things that I don't like about it, such as no full HDD install and the lack of the ability to run in a Window, which would help Rudy in this case.
@ Rudy, If all you want to do is to record the movies in the game instead of recording game play, you can just use the Resource Viewer to export them to AVI. To get it running in 3.1, I'll have to experiment.

I was thinking it sounds like the Auto-Run issue.

Re: Shivers 2 problem
@Tawmis: I may still have the StC installation lurking somewhere on my harddrive, but not in my DOSBox games folder, so it shouldn't find it while I try to run it under DOSBox. The installation went fine (I do wonder if I should have installed the additional components that came with it, which I believe was a video player), and I tried to run it manually, not with autorun, so I doubt that would be the issue.
@Collector: it would be for a full video walkthrough. Also, for some reason, video clips refuse to save as AVI in the SCI viewer I use. Perhaps I have a corrupt one? I downloaded it some time ago from a link in a thread on these forums.

You probably have an old version that does not have full VMD support. Grab the latest from the Wiki. http://sciwiki.sierrahelp.com/index.php ... _Utilities

Re: Shivers 2 problem
I thought I would post here and mention that I have gotten Shivers 2 running in DOSBox to the point that I can get into the game. However when I select "New Game" it does not allow me to type in the ledger, which prevents me from actually starting the game.
I am looking into the issue though, and if I figure out a fix I will post it here.

Re: Shivers 2 problem
I got this running in Win 3.1 under DOSBox today.
Use the DOSBox SVN Daum build.
In the conf, set cycles to 75000, memsize to 63. Mount both cd's using imgmount.
Set windows to 640x480 @ 256 colors before installing. Skip the "tests" when it wants to check your system.
After the install the game should load up just fine. originally I was having trouble with it getting to the new game ledger, but then not allowing me to type (therefor preventing me from starting a game). The screen resolution/color depth seemed to help address this.

Re: Shivers 2 problem
Keep in mind that the game is not really optimized for Win3x. I am assuming that you have the Win32s installed since the game is 32-bit. As to you cycles, you don't want to use anymore than about 20,000 cycles without using dynamic core, so be sure you have it set to dynamic. For Shivers 2 I would use max as there are no speed bugs to worry about.
That said, even though this is an interesting experiment, for anyone wanting to play this on a modern machine, I would simply recommend the StC installer. It would probably work on other platforms via WINE, too.
