GOG KQ7 graphical problems

Post by joek0 »

I am having graphical problems with GOG's version of KQ7. Can you recommend good DOSBox conf settings that would help. I hope Collector replies to this post.

I'd personally recommend changing the output from surface to ddraw and see if that makes a difference

As usual, the GOG dosbox.conf is for a 2 versions old DOSBox.
Use this, instead. Note the "machine="

Code: Select all

[sdl]
output= overlay
fullresolution= 0x0
windowresolution= 800x600
autolock=false

[DOSBox]
machine= svga_s3

[render]
aspect= true
scaler= normal2x

[cpu]
core= normal
cycles= 10000

[autoexec]
cls
@ECHO OFF
mount c .
c:
cd \
SIERRA -o .\RESOURCE.CFG
exit
Also, be sure that the videoDrv listed in the RESOURCE.CFG is VESA.DRV.

Thanks for the quick reply. I bought all the Sierra Quest games on GOG durring the holiday sale. If I have any more problems for the other games, I'll upload the conf file in another post. Also, I am having graphical issues with KQ8. The game runs smoothly, but is having many graphical hicups. What would you need to know in order to troubleshoot KQ8?

You could try a Glide Wrapper.

I was wondering if you wanted to see every dosbox.conf for each of the Quest and Gabriel Knight games on GOG. Maybe you can add a section on your site for GOG game troubleshooting.

In case you wanted to know, GOG's KQ8 needs the Indeo Video Codec and is missing the starttxt.txt file.

In most cases the dosbox.conf that GOG uses for their games is just the default conf for a very old version of DOSBox. Only the autoexec section is unique for the majority of the games. I am aware that GOG's MoE has several problems. Not much I will be doing about its deficiencies. I have done this in the past and GOG has adapted my fixes without giving me credit. My MoE installer addresses several of these and with the added patches by Aroenai, most of the other issues have been fixed or at least includes work around. The installer requires the original CD to work, though.
