Shivers help

I was hoping I could get some help here, since I've been searching for a while now and haven't come up with a definitive answer to the question I have.

I'm thinking of buying a new computer. And I'm making my decision on which one to buy based on whether or not it will run Shivers. (Granted, that's probably not the best way to choose a computer, but I've held onto the game since 1995 and I want to be able to play it again.)

My friend has the 32 bit version of Windows 7 and I know Shivers runs on his computer. If I have to, I'll go with that...But I'm not really that thrilled about it since I may have some other games that won't run on there.

I was wondering if Shivers will run in XP Mode in Windows 7 64. Has anyone tried this? I know it's not able to run on 64 bit computers, but I was really hoping that XP Mode would eliminate that issue.

Yes, It seems to run just fine in XP Mode. Just remember that you will need to get at least Win7 Pro to get XP Mode. I have been able to get to run most Sierra games on my Win7 Pro box. This is the place to go for help with Sierra games on modern Windows. I have solutions for nearly all of the Sierra games.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I've been so desperate to play this game again because I've been using Vista 64 for the past couple of years and couldn't find a way to make it work on here.

If you had had at least Vista Pro, you could have installed Virtual PC, which is what XP Mode is based on. Once a program or game is installed in the XP Mode virtual machine, you will find a shortcut for it in your Win7 Start Menu that will let you play it in Win7 as if it was running directly in Win7.

Someone told me Windows 7 Pro isn't worth it, but I'm not really sure why they feel that way. I wish it were easier to get this game to work.

XP Mode is not available in any version less than Pro. It is not that much more expensive than Home Premium, perhaps $30-40 more and XP Mode alone is the main reason. If you want to run older games or programs, it is well worth it. I was able to continue using my old scanner, even though there are no Win7 x64 drivers for it, via XP Mode. I have used it to get around programs that will run in Win7, but there installers do not. There are several other advantages that Pro has that may not make much difference to you, such as the Group Policy Editor that makes customizing Windows settings much easier. This can be a life saver in the event of certain infections.
