Space Quest: Vohaul Strikes Back

In Space No One Can Hear You Clean, er, Scream. But if you post in this forum about Space Quest - someone's sure to hear you. I think. Try it, anyway!

Space Quest: Vohaul Strikes Back

Post by OmerMor »

A new Space Quest fan game is out. I'm downloading it right now, so can't comment about it yet. I know it was made in AGS using high-res (800x600) graphics. The screenshots on the site resembles SQ6
here's the link: http://www.sqvsb.com/download.

This game is a long time coming. I remember years ago they asked me to write a rock version of the theme on guitar for their introduction sequence. Never did it, wasn't very good back then at mixing live instruments. It's so good to see this finally released, though!

Word of mouth seems to be spreading faster than we can post the announcements. I was just on my way here to make the same post. :) (thanks for the plugs, Omer and MI!)

Oh, well - I'm here - here's the announcement:

After 10 long years, we're pleased to announce the release of the latest Space Quest fangame, Vohaul Strikes Back.

We hope you enjoy playing it. Please let us know if you have any questions.

On a personal note, I'd like to thank all the VSB developers for sticking through to the end, and all the beta testers for helping us polish the game.

I'm kind of impatient to get this released so I'll stop typing and let you get playing. Enjoy!

I made a gameplay trailer! :D

A week late, yes. And released on same day as SQ2+, yes - but they're gonna steal our thunder anyway.

Instead of viewing it as stealing your thunder - why not contact them and see if you can cross promote one another? It's obviously a common interest, where a lot of work went into each project - cross promoting one another would be beneficial for both parties.

Ha ha - I was just joking. We're already doing that.

As far as thunder-stealing goes, it's just my game holding up the party. And then VSB will (eventually) come out with a talkie, stealing thunder from my game, and the trifecta will be complete.

I played VSB and I loved it. I admit that I wasn't following the project closely enough over the years to come up with any real expectations, but if I had any expectations, I'm sure the game would have exceeded them.

It's really a treat to play the first SQ fangame that isn't an interquel or a prequel, and the entertaining story, in-jokes, dialogue and deaths all work together to make this a game that truly was worth the wait. (I also think this is the first Sierra fangame to use high-resolution 2D graphics, which is also very cool.)

Just finished. I thought it was very good. I liked the hi-res artwork and the writing. Looks like we share the same sense of humor and interests.
