Do you like Ecoquest? Are they real adventures?
I think so.
I've just begun to play Ecoquest 1, for review purpose, and - although I was expecting something like Mixed-Up Mother Goose - the game surprised me.
Sure, it was easier than other Sierra's game, and it's clearly aimed at children and young adults, but the writing is - as always - extremely good, the characters are likeable and some of the puzzles are quite challening. Most important of all, the game succeeds in merging entertainment (there is a lot of comedy; and a well-thought one) and education.
Like Sepulveda's The Story of a Seagull and the Cat who taught her to fly, this game has a serious undertone, an important theme never so hot like today, and therefore I think it's a shame that it's so underrated!

I like them. I recently lucked out and snagged EQ2 complete for only $40.

I have both games and have played both several times through. Yes, as you said, they're aimed for a younger audience - but they're also very fun. It's very easy to lose yourself in the game and just enjoy it for what it is (because some of the puzzles are difficult - but for the most part they're pretty easy) - so you can kind of breeze through the game without stopping to figure out puzzles for long.

I think that that was part of the magic of the Sierra games. Even the games aimed at children were fun for adults, too.

I agree (though most would say I am still a kid, so that may have some effect)...Collector wrote:I think that that was part of the magic of the Sierra games. Even the games aimed at children were fun for adults, too.
But yes, older Sierra games were aimed at families playing them together.

Totally agree. And this speaks of the care they put in making them, as an intelligent form of art and entertainment.Collector wrote:I think that that was part of the magic of the Sierra games. Even the games aimed at children were fun for adults, too.

I havent played the 2nd EQ but I did play the 1st one the CD version. and I was really impressed this game really teaches you about certain things about the environment. The CD version with the voice acting just adds something extra to kids who want to learn and who are auditory learners like myself. I would say that the 1st one is an real adventure game.

I played EQ2 first when I was thirteen and greatly enjoyed it, and it remains my favorite even today. The puzzles and the stories are integrated so well that it's easy to forget you're playing "edutainment" titles.

By the way, you can find Pepper's Adventures in Time on Mark Seibert's site. He was the music director for Sierra in its glory days. The game was developed by him and he has it for download. I don't want linking to abandonware on this site, but I'll just say Google is your friend.

Totally agree. Maybe an even better game than EcoQuest! A great adventure. Period.Akril wrote:other underrated installment in the Sierra Discovery Series that's fun for adults as well as kids.

EcoQuest was, as said, very underrated.
But there's quite a few games that fall into that catergory.

I enjoyed Ecoquest. I think Orpheus Hanley did a fantastic job with the soundtrack, and it's such a great game to introduce kids to environmental issues. I still need to get around to playing the second one.
Definitely an underrated classic. How awesome is it that you can play as a vicious dog and learn about colonial times at the same time? Edutainment rocks!Akril wrote:Pepper's Adventures in Time is another underrated installment in the Sierra Discovery Series that's fun for adults as well as kids.

The whole rainforest setting was amazing to me. It made me want to live in the rainforest with them! Ahh the simple life. Doesn't that sound like a good life at this time?
Maybe I'm wrong but it seemed like they didn't get too much attention... although a complete copy of EQ2 will easily go for $100 on ebay.
