I installed my CD version of the game after finding the "EcoQuest 1 for DOSBox" installer. The installer worked just fine, and the game is running smoothly, including voice acting. However, the music is rather too quiet. The game has no dedicated volume control for music; nor does the little configuration program that the installer provides.
Is there a way I can adjust the music volume?

Re: Eco Quest 1 -- music volume
That is the way that the game was designed. On my system the in game volume control seems to only affect the MIDI music. XP allowed you to adjust WAV and MIDI separately in the system mixer, but modern Windows does not. I am not sure if you could find a 3rd party mixer that would restore this ability.

Re: Eco Quest 1 -- music volume
You wound up giving me the answer after all! I happen to be running the game on an XP computer. I opened up Windows' volume control and realized how, as you say, I can sink the WAV volume level while keeping the MIDI setting (and my physical speaker unit) high, resulting in a much better balance.
Thank you. Now I, and hopefully my nieces and nephews, can fully (re-)enjoy this beautiful game!
