QFG4 for GOG

Post by joek0 »

Gog's copy of QFG4 is not running smoothly in the intro. The problem is that the intro comes up after a full minute or 2. Having a black screen at the intro for a minute is annoying. If Collector is reading this, can you look over the DOSBox config file for me.

There are a number of issues with the conf they are using. For one thing they are using an outdated conf file (from 0.72, it looks like). but removed the first line that IDs it as an old file. For the life of me, I don't know why they use a full conf for each game. If they used one that only had the settings that deviated from defaults, it would be less likely to cause issues with each new version of DOSBox.

I would suggest that you replace it with a standard 0.74 conf and paste in the mounting from the GOG conf. Change the core to normal and cycles to 10000.

Of course I can't do much more than this without access to the GOG version. There are probably also problems from other things that that are misconfigured/misapplied, like the RESOURCE.CFG. It is also very likely that they have included all of the NRS patches which some have proven to cause problems and are best not used. DOSBox alone can be used to solve most of the timer bugs. I offered my help to GOG, but was ignored.
