MOE - audio and game hangups

Post by futurewolfie »

Hey yo, just recently found this place and was delighted to discover the KQ: MOE new installer which finally allowed me to re-play the game on my current PC. Woot!

Unfortunately I am experiencing a few issues I can't find listed anywhere on this site.

Issue #1: Audio. It works fine... until I die or travel to a new area. When I start up the game, the first time I load a saved game it works fine and there are no issues. However, if I die and have to re-load, or if I travel to a new area (causing a load, of course), suddenly all the sound disappears. Nothing but silence. I can get it back by exiting completely out of the game and restarting, but I'd rather not have to do that everytime I need to load a new area.

Issue #2: Dimension of Death hangup. Not where you'd expect - the instant I enter the Dimension of Death and the cutscene where Connor destroys the evil spirit thing with his magic ring, the game hangs. Connor just stands there looking like a doofus, the spinning mask icon stays there, and nothing happens. Wierdly I can pull up the map or the status bar at the bottom with their hotkeys. But... I'm stuck. I don't want to skip way ahead with the feather saved game.

I'm running the game with the new installer on windows Vista, in Direct 3D mode (glide was way too laggy for me even with all the settings turned off). Any thoughts?

It sounds like it is more of an issue with your setup. You can try to update your audio driver. Run the diagnostic and attach the result here as a file.

You didn't include the last part of the log with the file list. It will be rather long, so don't paste it, but add the file as an attachment.

Okay, I can get past the DoD hangup and the audio issue goes away if I use 3Dfx... however in certain situations that mode is EXTREMELY laggy for me (such as in big open areas, or if I use an invisibility potion). Any suggestsions on what settings are optimal for Mask with the Glide emulator?

I noticed that Indeo5S.exe is in your folder. This should have been in the temp folder to install the codec for the game. Perhaps it was not installed. Try installing it to see if it helps. You might also try updating your DirectX9c http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... aspx?id=35

Known issue... not really any way around it until we can find someone with better disassembly skills than me. The sad truth is the game can lock up any point in the game where the spinning mask starts and the scripts rely on a TalkComplete test to give you back control, in rare cases it can also skip giving you experience points as well. The work-arounds in the installer are only for the most common places it happens.
