Favorite King's Quest game and why? (And yes, I will even...

Is the game being a ROYAL pain? Need a hint? Got a problem? This is the place to discuss King's Quest!

Right! Her touch is highly recognizable through the game, and it was what really made it great.

Another thing I painfully missed was the Society of Black Cloaks, a feature that I definitely wanted to see more expanded!
KQ7 is too childish?! Admittedly, it's very much Disney-esque in its animation style (and I think they were trying to capture the attention of kids and such by making it more cartoony - and I think they did an awesome job) - but the puzzles in KQ7 are not very kiddy! Those puzzles are hard. As for the rabbit, I thought he fit with the whole world that they had for KQ7. :)

What I think KQ7 suffers from is trying to follow up after KQ6... it's like those one hit wonder bands - they make one great song - and then nothing they can do after words ever compares in the eyes of most.

I do have the old KQ Collection, but never could find enough interest in installing it.
While KQ4 is my favorite of the KQ series - as everyone has said - if you play any KQ game - you MUST play KQ6. It really is a very, very, very incredible game - and raised the bar for adventure games (which were never surpassed).

I was referring to the graphic style and the dialogues, mainly. But you're right, those puzzles weren't surely for kids.

Maybe you're also right when you say that KQ6 was difficult (impossible?) to overcome.

I am proud to say that I solved KQ6 without a walkthrough or help of any kind. There were some real stumpers, but each perfectly fit the story. Not like the nasty lock picking puzzle in Still Life. After solving them you feel a real sense of accomplishment. There were a couple that had me going for a couple of days, but there were other paths that you could explore in the mean time. Playing the game for the first can be a real obsession. like I said, I envy you for the ability to play this game for the first time.

No, I intended: "impossible to surpass by the developers, which already produced their personal masterpiece"

... Sorry for the misunderstanding :(

"King's Quest VI" is maybe close to my favorite game of all time. After all these years, I can still go through the entire game without needing to consult a map or the copyright protection. I remember showing a couple minutes of it to a friend last year and they wanted to actually sit down and have me walk them through the entire game because of how gripping the story was. We were up until 3 in the morning playing it.

KQ6 is definitely a land mark game. It is without a doubt one of the most incredibly written games in terms of Adventure Games.

KQ5. I loved Cedric! <ducks, runs>

This ones a little harder to nail down a favorite. KQ3 was the first one I played (the only sierra quest series I didn't start at the beginning) so it has a special place. KQ4 was cool because of the length and complexity of it all and the new graphics and sounds. KQ5 was pretty good and KQ6 was great. Tried playing KQ7 and couldnt deal with it, never attempted KQ8 yet.

I guess I'd have to go with 3 through 6 all in a tie with 6 getting a little nudge because of the quality of all the pieces.

Because it's a forum (and I apparently like to hear myself type) - I am going to probe you (ewww, not like that! That kind of humor is for the Space Quest forum!) - and ask what you disliked about KQ7!

Well, a lot of people complained about the graphics, but i didn't think they were bad. Just unexpected after the quality of KQ6 and took away from KQ7 because of it. The main thing was the dumbed down single click interface and those hotspots. Couldn't experiment as openly with stuff in inventory. Felt very limited and stifling. Should probably try again someday, but it was such a departure of 'how' you played, just turned me off.

Of course many said the same sorts of things about the move from the text parser interface to the icon based. Frankly the KQ6 interface is what I prefer, myself. I can see the parser argument, but hate being hung up when I know what I need to do, but I have to also play a guessing game of what the game designer decided to call verb or a noun. Who wouldn't eventually get irritated with "I don't know how to ___" or "You can't do that, now" over and over and over? That doesn't add to the game play, it is just an impediment.

I don't, however like the "dumbed down" interface of KQ7 with its all in one cursor. I also didn't like the limited save feature, either. It is nice having an auto save in case you mess up and forgot to save, but to have that take away form your ability to have multiple saves is not good. QfG4 had this ability without taking away form its ability for normal save.

What I want is flexibility without chunkiness.
