KQ7 is too childish?! Admittedly, it's very much Disney-esque in its animation style (and I think they were trying to capture the attention of kids and such by making it more cartoony - and I think they did an awesome job) - but the puzzles in KQ7 are not very kiddy! Those puzzles are hard. I am proud to say that I solved KQ6 without a walkthrough or help of any kind. There were some real stumpers, but each perfectly fit the story. Not like the nasty lock picking puzzle in Still Life. After solving them you feel a real sense of accomplishment. There were a couple that had me going for a couple of days, but there were other paths that you could explore in the mean time. "King's Quest VI" is maybe close to my favorite game of all time. After all these years, I can still go through the entire game without needing to consult a map or the copyright protection. I remember showing a couple minutes of it to a friend last year and they wanted to actually sit down and have me walk them through the entire game because of how gripping the story was. We were up until 3 in the morning playing it.

This ones a little harder to nail down a favorite. KQ3 was the first one I played (the only sierra quest series I didn't start at the beginning) so it has a special place. KQ4 was cool because of the length and complexity of it all and the new graphics and sounds. KQ5 was pretty good and KQ6 was great. Tried playing KQ7 and couldnt deal with it, never attempted KQ8 yet.
I guess I'd have to go with 3 through 6 all in a tie with 6 getting a little nudge because of the quality of all the pieces.

Well, a lot of people complained about the graphics, but i didn't think they were bad. Just unexpected after the quality of KQ6 and took away from KQ7 because of it. The main thing was the dumbed down single click interface and those hotspots. Couldn't experiment as openly with stuff in inventory. Felt very limited and stifling. Of course many said the same sorts of things about the move from the text parser interface to the icon based. Frankly the KQ6 interface is what I prefer, myself. I can see the parser argument, but hate being hung up when I know what I need to do, but I have to also play a guessing game of what the game designer decided to call verb or a noun. Who wouldn't eventually get irritated with "I don't know how to ___" or "You can't do that, now" over and over and over? That doesn't add to the game play, it is just an impediment.
I don't, however like the "dumbed down" interface of KQ7 with its all in one cursor. I also didn't like the limited save feature, either. It is nice having an auto save in case you mess up and forgot to save, but to have that take away form your ability to have multiple saves is not good. QfG4 had this ability without taking away form its ability for normal save.
What I want is flexibility without chunkiness.
