MUNT 1.0.0 Can't install

Post by MusicallyInspired »

Hey, guys. Wondering if someone can help me with the latest version of MUNT. I try to install it and it says it can't because there is no MIDI port available. This doesn't make any sense as there obviously is. Any idea what's going on?

Perhaps all of the available slots in the Registry are populated? There are only ten slots available. Often duplicates occur.

Code: Select all

HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\Drivers32

Looks like there are 10 of all the same device; wdmaud.drv. Same for mixer, aux , and wave. Can I just delete the duplicates then?

That is what I thought would be the case. Just delete the last couple. If you are worried about doing it, you can export the key before doing so. wdmaud.drv is the one that keeps making duplicate entries on my machine, too. I believe that that driver is just the Microsoft "Windows Driver Model" audio driver. This only started happening after I tried the QT app. King Guppy had asked for my NSIS script which I gave him, but sergm seemed to not like the idea of an installer, in spite of the fact that the INF installer fails on x64 Windows.

Not to be too critical of sergm since he is largely responsible for the tremendous strides that have been made with Munt, but he can be rather dismissive of certain suggestions asking about about certain things like using an INI file in the Windows directory for a modern app as well as installing the driver. I have not looked at the source for his driver setup utility to see how it is handling the Registry. It could also just as easily be from some Windows quirk that crept in from a Windows update.

I have had to delete one of the extra entries several times. However, the Munt setup utility will not reinstall the driver, so I have had to use my installer to restore Windows' recognition of the Munt Driver. Perhaps I should consider making a utility to count the occurrences of wdmaud.drv and delete the last string value of it if all slots are populated with repeated occurrences of that driver and re-add the Munt entry.

I deleted the duplicate entries (all 9 of them) and the driver was allowed to install successfully this time.
