KQ4 losing music

Post by mtl_max »

Hello.
I installed KQ4 from the original collection using this site's installer.

Music ran ok during the intro but, in the game itself, after 20 secs, I lose every piece of music.
In the dwarf's mine, for example, it only plays the first loop then, it goes blank.

I attached the diagnostic log.

I can't see why I would be losing music like that... Especially since the intro's music functions correctly...

Thankl for your help.

To elaborate on the problem.
I am losing all sound on every screen after 20 seconds (except the intro).
This includes the "score point sound"
However, if leaving the screen resets the sound or music, the music is restored and available again.

But, if leaving a screen without resetting the music will keep the music silent.

For example: dwarf caves. Normally the music is continually looping in the 2 screens of the dwarf cave. If you change screens in the dwarf caves, the music normally keeps playing.
So, in my case, I enter the dwarfs cave. I have sounds for 20 secs. I go to the next cave's screen. The music does not restarts. The "score point" does not play, nor the "falling down sound".
But, if I leave the cave, the musics "resets" and so, sound are now available for 20 secs.

I hope this clears things up.

Try opening the game's RESOURCE.CFG in Notepad and change the soundDrv entry to ADL.DRV. it won't sound as good as the GM driver, but the GM driver is a fan made driver that seems that you have found an issue with it for KQ4. The best sound for the game is MT-32, but you would need a real Roland MT-32 or the Munt emulator to use MT-32 sound.
