Does the installers remove copy protection?

Post by JohnnyPhantom »

Hi everyone,
this may seem like a dumb question.
A while back for the LSL reloaded kickstarter, I played a LSL 1-7 Marathon.
This was before I knew about collectors awesome installers!

I just re-installed my LSL Ultimate Pleasure pack and noticed that copy protection is missing from the games. Also I'm not getting a age quiz for part 3. So I'm stuck at the G rated version.

Is this a feature of the installers from this site?
Is there away to disable that feature and have the copy protection re-enabled?

Thanks everyone!
~John

Those are the age questions, not copy protection. Yes they are added by the installers. To remove them, delete 710.SCR from LSL1VGA and SCRIPT.140 from LSL3.

Actually, I think his problem is that they're NOT there so he's stuck on the tame version of LSL3 (for example, the girl puts the blinds almost all the way down when you look through the binoculars). So he probably needs to see if the following files are there: 710.SCR from LSL1VGA and SCRIPT.140 from LSL3, if I am understanding correctly?

Also, no need to delete the files when they're a simple short cut to bypass them: LSL1 EGA Bypass, LSL1 VGA Bypass and LSL3 Bypass.

yes, I would love to have the games fully intact with copy protection (LSL 2 Girl Phone numbers) and age questions

In LSL 2, without the Girl Phone numbers part, you skip over the intro :(

Check to see if the files Collector mentioned are there. If they're not, that's the problem. If they are there, and it's still skipping over the age questions, there's another issue. (In which, I'd recommend completely uninstalling and doing a clean install)

Thanks for the replies, I've already uninstalled the game and reinstalled a few times, as well as tried installing the other versions of LSL such as the greatest hits and misses, and collector sieres. Same result.

I'm assuming the scripts are missing,

where/how would I check for them?
I looked in the game folders of both installed and on the cds and I do not see scripts at all. Are they a hidden file or would I need some kind of tool like a hex editor?

thanks!

remove what from the games folder? I don't see the scripts showing up.

also... one more thing, not sure if this makes a diffrence but I'll try on another machine, I'm running Windows 8 now on this PC. could Windows be causing some error someplace?

I think he's saying he looked on the game disks and they're not there. (Like are they extracted during the install...)

If I was at home, I'd just grab the files and attach them.

I mean that those files are added by the installer to bypass the age questions. If you want the age questions, remove them from the installed folders.

Oh. So the installers DO bypass Copy Protection.

I didn't think they did. So those files DO need to be removed so that the age questions pop up.

AH-HA!

I installed LSL2 on a windows 7 machine, saw the script file, trashed it and copy protections back ^-^

now to find out how to do the same on Windows 8.. hmm....

Why not just copy the files from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (via Shared Network path, or USB key, considering how small the game files are)
