Phantasmagoria 2 - Out of Memory Issue

I can't load the game because you password protected it and I don't have the time to try to hack it.

I wasn't able to use my save file at all today as it just took me back to the main menu, so I had to start over. I managed to get back to the part I was stuck at.

I don't remember putting a password protection in the game, but does it have anything to do with the save file having the word [protected] next to the name of the save? If that is the problem, then how do I remove it?

Thanks for helping so far, and sorry about the save file. I've uploaded the new save file just in case (also included a newer diagnosis_log file), and I don't have any password protection this time, unless the installation sets it up with the game. I re-installed the game in case the "out of memory" problem was due to an error in the installation, unfortunately it wasn't the case.

It is stored in the RESDUK.PAT file. The save game is still saying that it is protected. Delete RESDUK.PAT and try again. Be sure that you have one save before you enter the room with the crash as well as the one right before. In other words, do not save on top of your previous save. The later save may carry the bug over, even if I find what is causing the crash.

I didn't have the file in my directory, but I created one with the the password as "0", then deleted the file, but I was still seeing the file as protected even with a new save file I just created.

I will go through the game again with 1 save file before I'm back at the apartment to finish Disk 3, and the 2nd save file at the end of Disk 3.

Never mind. I finally got it to run. I have found a solution. Give a bit and I'll post a fix for you.

UInzip this into the game's folder. Be sure that the WAV goes into the PATCHES folder and that the Conf.exe overwrites the old one. Run the Conf tool and load your save game.

The game allowed me to go on from the part I was stuck in thanks to the files and instructions you mentioned.

Thanks for your patience and help tracking down the problem. You were only the 2nd to report the issue. This one has not been as thoroughly tested as the PH1 installer, so there was less bug squashing. A new version of the installer has been updated and uploaded.

I'm glad to have helped out finding an error in the game, and obtaining a fix for the problem. If I find any other issues with this game, or other Sierra games that doesn't have a solution, I'll post it up.

Edit:
I just found another problem near the end of Disk 5, which is when you are starting the final puzzle, it gives me this error:

Invalid audio file format: 1001
Script# 64989 ($ff019b18+)

Here is my save file near the issue if it's needed (I'll include my diagnostis_log file as well.)

Alright, I manage to go through the puzzle without any problems. I didn't come across any other problems after that part, so I was able to beat the game.
