Phantasmagoria - Black Borders

Post by Luinath »

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is a problem, but whenever I play the game windowed or in full screen, the game doesn't use the whole screen, and leaves a black border in the bottom, and the right side. Is there anyway to fix this? I installed the game with the Phantasmagoria HDD/DVD DOSBox Setup.

I've tried changing the resolution & output around, but it either has no change from my original settings, or expands the black borders to the left, and right side due to resolution incompatibility with the game. This also occurs with the cut scenes, and the main menu.

What is at the bottom is normal. The blank area on the right is just how DOSBox displays it. Even changing the machine type does no good. Also, the game lacks a VGA driver, which would lower the resolution, anyway. This would probably need to be addressed in DOSBox's code.

So it's just the limitations of the game, and coding in DOSBox after all. Just making sure something didn't go wrong in the installation, or that I did something wrong in the settings.

One thing that you can do is edit the RESOURCE.CFG to change the "hires" value to 640,450. This will stretch the game's GUI to fill the window all the way across, but it will not stretch the movies. Changing 450 to 480 will fill the height, but the distortion starts to be noticeable.

Just as said, there were some issues that appeared in the game from using the values you suggested. I don't think it's that bad, since the only ones I've seen so far is that the movies played during the game have black border in the bottom and right instead, and that a few texts in the option look a bit different, but not that major.

Sorry for the late reply.
