KQ6 Installer - RedBook Audio question

Post by ozymanhattan »

When running your new KQ6 installer, the attempt to copy the Redbook audio fails. I don't have either a FLAC or OGG file in the directory. I've tried both on my original CD and on a BIN/CUE copy that I keep on my external hard drive (in case the CD ever fails).

Attached is my diagnostic log. I've found a way to manually extract the audio as a WAV file, but what do I need to call it so ScummVM can see it? I assume it isn't needed on the DOSBox version, right?

Also, as a corollary, ScummVM doesn't have the hi-res portraits and inventory, and behaves like the DOSBox version? Any assistance anyone can provide would be awesome!

Thanks for the help as always!

Remove all virtual CD drives and try the installer again. The installer creates two shortcuts. make sure that you are using the Windows shortcut, not the DOSBox shortcut.

OK, so disabling that solved the first issue of extracting the WAV and converting to OGG. However, ScummVM appears to still be seeing the DOS version of the game. I go to New Game, walk over to the town, and talk to the pawn shop owner and get the regular LORES portrait.

any thoughts/suggestions?

Do you have it set to text? Text uses the DOS dialog portraits.

I cannot replicate the DOS graphics without selecting text instead of speech. The only difference that I can see is that you have an earlier version than any copy that I have and that you are missing a few patch files. Removing those patches makes no difference for my installation. I can only think of two possibilities. Either you are starting the game from the ScummVM GUI or there is some difference with your version of the game. Using the ScummVM GUI will start the game using the main scummvm.ini instead of the ini in the game's folder. Also, starting the game from the "King's Quest VI- Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow DOS" link in the game's folder will obviously start the DOS game in DOSBox, which I am assuming you are not doing.

If you are starting the game from the "King's Quest VI- Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow CD" link in the Start Menu or the "King's Quest VI- Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow Win" link in the game's folder, it must have something to do with your version of the game, which there is little I can do about it without a copy to experiment with and check for file differences.
