Composing for SB16's OPL3 chip?
Composing for SB16's OPL3 chip?
I've recently decided to try and dabble in the art of composing music for the OPL3 standard, specifically for the SoundBlaster 16's OPL3 chip. However, there seems to be very little in the way of information regarding how to compose for it, whether it be via a more visual method (like music composing software) or via programming. If anyone can recommend some good sites or reading material on the subject, or are willing to give some advice on the matter, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Re: Composing for SB16's OPL3 chip?
There were some old DOS programs for working with older hardware. Off hand, I am not thinking of anything specifically for SB, but there is AdLib Instrument Maker for working with AdLib, DrTs MT-32 Editor/Librarian, MT2SYX and JSynthLib for Roland MT-32, SBANK Instrument/Sound Bank Manager for SoundBlaster and Adlib.
I made a unified GUI for a number of these tools and some specific SCI SOUND resource utilities, including Soundbox. It is intended for use with SCI Studio and/or SCI Companion for making SCI fan games, so I don't know if it is of any use to you or not, but here is the download link:

If MI sees this, he may have some more ideas.
