I've got

"C:\GOG Games\Kings Quest 4-5-6\DOSBox\DOSBox.exe" -conf dosboxKQ6.conf -noconsole

now but it's still coming up with the prompt. My start line is

"C:\GOG Games\Kings Quest 4-5-6\King's Quest 6\"

The GOG default does not have an apostrophe in "kings". Hold the shift key, right click on the KQ6 folder and choose "Copy as Path". This will copy the path to your clipboard. Paste the path here.

Well, something finally occurred to me, that there's a second dosboxkq6.conf file with a "_single" added to the name so I punched that in and sure enough it popped open. I'm going to try a run now and see what happens, if you want to come watch, I'm streaming at http://www.twitch.tv/sambrea

It does not load. Could you paste the path?

Make a save game right before the crash to give me so I can see what might be going on.

Question: If these are Gog games, why isn't Gog helping him?

Because GoG uses Collector's installers (pretty much). So Collector probably knows how to fix it better than they do. :)
:P

EDIT: And it's like saying, why doesn't Sierra support everyone who doesn't get their game from GoG. Simple fact is, this forums is used frequently for expert troubleshooting from Collector.

1. I'm a her (name's Andrea, nice to meet you :)

2. I've contacted GOG and they were pretty useless, in fact I contacted GOG first.

In this case, no. Except for KQ1AGI and MoE, their KQ games are chopped up from the highly flawed 2006 VU collection. GOG gave these games to me, but until now I have not had a chance to see what need to be fixed with the KQ games. After I do, I'll be contacting their tech department with my recommendations for a new release. The new versions should be available to anyone who has already bought them.

@ sambrea, I was able to go right up the logic cliff without issue. Where does it crash every time?

right at the bottom, but it seems to be an issue of time, where it only crashes after a certain amount of time, so I play up to the cliffs and start to climb them and then it crashes, resload and can do it fine, play for another while, have it crash again on the second trip to the isle of mists, and so forth

I keep trying to get it to crash at that point, but it does not. I am, of course using my simplified conf file. I am still puzzled by the addition of the apostrophe in the game's folder name. The default GOG path does not include them. If you change the path for the collection, it just sets the collection's folder, not the games' subfolders. This is why I wanted you to copy the path of the KQ6 folder with the shift+right click > "Copy as path". This would give me the exact information needed to be sure that it is only using the conf I attached earlier.
