Dual-Screen Monitor Support

Post by DeadPoolX »

Maybe this is an odd question, but do any games have dual-screen support? I realize the old Sierra and LucasArts games wouldn't, but any modern games?

I have two 19" monitors side-by-side. They're hooked up to the DVI ports on my video card. This works great in Photoshop and other non-gaming applications, but it'd be nice to use it with a game or two.

I could "fix" it so I have a "fake dual-screen" setup (i.e. play on one monitor and have a map or other info on the other), but that's not really the point. I'd like to find a game that can use a dual monitor setup and actually interact.

I can't think of a game that's designed like that - and how would it work? I mean what would you see on the second screen that you wouldn't see on the first - for them to even want to program dual screen type games?

Well... in a few Flight Sims this expands your viewing area. Anyone who's ever played a Flight Sim knows that having more viewspace can make all the difference. It also increase your situational awareness.

As for other games, I could see it being used to display your inventory, strategic maps and basically any menu system that would normally take up the screen or make you pause in order to view it. That seems like a good reason to have it.

I doubt very many people have a dual-monitor setup, however. That's probably the main consideration.

I had a dual-monitor setup for the longest time that I used when recording music. It was very useful. Then one of them died. then the other one died. So now I have one big one instead. I also have a small LCD one but it's not worth having a dual-monitor setup unless they're the same size and can have the same resolution.
